UncategorizedMy Love Affair with White Walls February 9, 2012Sorry that it’s been more quiet than usual around here in the last week or so. School has been very busy, but we’ve also been working pretty hard on a project in the house that I’m hoping to share the start of tomorrow. I’m glad to be back! I’ve made it no secret around here that I love me some white walls. But here lately, I’ve gotten several questions as to why and maybe even a little bit of dissapointment in my love of white. I don’t take it personally because I know that creamy white walls aren’t for everyone. But I think I’ll share a little bit about why I love them so much… A plain white room with little going on isn’t for me… See, I love this bedroom. But I think the gray bench makes the room. I love all the white, but I don’t think it would be very me if it was JUST white. I’m sure you guys can tell that I’m no minimalist when it comes to decorating our home. I love piles of accessories, mixtures of finishes and patinas on furniture, lots of texture – the more the merrier. To me, that doesn’t always work with colored walls. I love these images… As you can see, minimalist they are not. And I love that. I don’t think you could have this much going on with colored walls. I think white is such a great backdrop for beautiful decorating. It blends in and lets the decorating really shine. {all images from my Pinterest} Beautiful. I used to pick paint colors first…whenever I was decorating a room, I would think, “Okay, what paint color should this be?” before I had a clue what would even go in the room! Then, I heard that you should decorate the room first. Decide what’s going in it, what might go on the walls, etc. and then, a paint color will make itself known as the right choice. I’ve tried to start doing this and the answer is usually white. My husband doesn’t love this so much, but he’s been so sweet and let me paint some rooms my beloved white. Now, I realize this isn’t for everyone and I’m not saying it’s the “right” choice. It’s just that for me, some creamy white walls as a backdrop is just right.

Something I’ve been learning! And I used to be like you: paint my walls, then decorate around them. I know better next time. Which is why I’m going to repaint the bathroom and the guest room, and possibly the living room (though I’ll just lighten it if I do). I still love my colored walls, but I know more now about how to layer them with patterns and other colors. And I love that you love white walls! It fits your personality and decorating style so well. Just like colored wells fit mine (I hope!). Reply
