Home DecorModern Farmhouse Style in the Screened Porch & a Giveaway June 15, 2016 I have so much to share about our screened porch project! Today, I’m talking about the overall modern farmhouse vibe we went with. When we first started planning out our shed turned screened porch, we envisioned a creating a modern barn feel. The outside already had the bones and weathered planks of an old barn. I’ll be talking more about the exterior transformation on Friday, but we really wanted to bring that farmhouse/barn vibe inside as well. Y’all know me. I love bringing in some rustic elements in each room I design. To me, weathered and rustic pieces naturally bring an age and character to a space. But of course, I have to balance them with a little eclectic spin and modern twist. Gordman’s reached out as I was working on this project and asked to see how I incorporate Modern Farmhouse decor into our spaces. Umm…perfect fit for me, my style, and this project. The inside naturally had a modern farmhouse base with the white planked walls we painted, the wood planked ceiling and rafters. My usual design plan to create my eclectic style is to add in a couple of items from all of the styles I’m going for. Together, they really create a balanced room. I already had several things that scream modern farmhouse to me. This old farm table paired with these white modern chairs, for example, is perfect for the style I was going for. I really wanted this space to feel like a true dining area, even though it was small. I had ordered this terrarium from Gordman’s to hang a plant in. I love the weathered gray finish and knew it would pop against all of the white. Once I started creating this little dining area, I thought that some sort of “chandelier” above it would really define the space. I decided to use this terrarium as a hanging lantern with candles instead of plants to create that vibe. I love its unique, geometric teardrop shape and most of all, I love how it works in this space. No outdoor space is complete without a lantern, in my humble opinion. Gordman’s had a great selection of rustic-inspired lanterns, but this nautical one really caught my eye. While I really love this, it was more for my husband. He is obsessed with rustic nautical style, so I knew bringing in this brass nautical lantern would compliment the other patterns and color that was a bit more for me. And I’m so glad I did. When we unpacked the box, he immediately loved it, as I’d expected. The rustic finish and brass cages really bring some character into the space. Make sure you check out all of Gordman’s Modern Farmhouse line. They’ve got some great choices for adding some age and soul to a space! Plus, they’re affordable. And thanks for sharing about Gordman’s — I had never heard of them before but it looks like a great resource for affordable decor. I was surprised at how inexpensive the terrarium/lantern is! It’s not as much fun when you click the links from a sponsored post and prices are crazy high. Thanks for keeping it real, Lindsay! Reply
