UncategorizedModern Country in Country Living March 19, 2013Have y’all seen the March issue of Country Living? I was catching up on my magazines over the weekend because with changing our address, they were a bit delayed in getting to us. And I fell in love with one of the homes featured. When I saw Corbin Bernsen’s California home, all I could think of was what I’ve been preaching around this blog for the last few weeks: modern country, contrast. They have decorated this home with lots of white as its base. You know I love that. But they’ve piled on a lot of modern and country details together. And I love it. Take the dining room for example. White box with a rustic table, modern chairs, country light fixtures. And the kitchen. I seriously fell in love with the kitchen. Country chippy cabinets and steel. Can you get more contrast? This little vignette in their kitchen gave me some serious inspiration for a corner of ours that’s been stumping me for a while. I know I said no upper cabinets, but I’m thinking about one like this in a little corner complete with chippy paint and chicken wire for a coffee or baking station. Such character! I’m loving the loft room for their sons. Country rafters, clean and modern, and the old patterns used in the bedding are so awesome. Their master bathroom had me swooning. Those rock floors…seriously? My mind was immediately racing with how we could do that in our home. I know, too expensive, way too expensive, I’m sure. I’ll have to archive it in my head for future bathroom designs. And a few more Modern Country deliciousness from their house… I just had to share their home. I’ve been talking y’all’s ears off about Modern Country and contrast and when I saw this house, I was like, “Ahhh…that’s exactly what I’ve been talking about!!!!” And it so made me smile that Country Living is publishing homes that have some major country (which I love), but that are also majorly stepping outside of their design box.

I know your take on the Modern Country will include a whole lot more accessories than his, because you love that stuff! 🙂 I’m excited to see it all come together. Oh, and I’ve decided I want the theme for my home to be ‘surprising.’ Your idea of contrast inspired me to set my own! Reply
