RenovationsMaster Bath Reveal July 11, 2016 This master bath reveal has been a long time coming, friends. I posted a lot of the plans and progress back in the spring. You can catch up on any of those posts below: MASTER BATH DESIGN PLANS DIY FARMHOUSE VANITIES OUR BUDGET-FRIENDLY CLAWFOOT TUB BRASS LANTERN FOR THE MASTER BATH BATHROOM COLOR OPTIONS DETAILS ON THE MASTER BATH MIRRORS INSTALLING HEATED FLOORS NEW PERSIAN RUG FOR THE MASTER BATH In many ways, this room has been close to being finished for awhile, but a few things have kept me from really finishing it up and revealing it. Even though I had several color options in mind, I just couldn’t pull the trigger. Neither one felt right, so I started considering other options and you’ll see what I ended up choosing is a little different, but it really feels perfect now that it’s done. We also had a lot of items in here we were waiting on like the glass shower door, window coverings, and that big storage cabinet. We’re calling this a Phase 1 Reveal of this room. It’s 99% done and the few remaining things like building the storage cabinet, will take some time. So, let’s go ahead and take a look at this mostly completed room! The centerpiece for this room is our budget-friendly antique clawfoot tub. I love the statement this wall makes with the tub centered and the symmetry of the vanities and mirrors on each side. And that over-sized brass chandelier really makes the room to me. Once I found this new vintage runner on eBay, the room really started to take shape. It has so many gorgeous colors in it and I love how it spans the entire width of the room. I found this chippy stool at a local antique store for $10 and I loved the mint against the colors in the rug. I still had a hard time choosing colors for the mirror and lights. Recently, I was wracking my brain for inspiration and I noticed this large, colorful abstract from our entry. And my color scheme was born! It has the same reds, pinks, and greens from the rug, so I decided to pull out those same shades in the details. There was some light olive green in the painting that inspired the mirror color. As I started considering colors for the mirror, I really felt like I wanted a more neutral option. Olive green is one of my favorite colors that feels neutral, but also gives you a hint of color. I had some paint leftover from painting our screened porch coffee table, so I gave that a try and love how it turned out. It’s HGTV Sherwin Williams (for Lowe’s) Pristine Wilderness. You may remember that I’d considered going black and brass for the barn lights, but really wasn’t feeling the heaviness that more black would bring. We spray-painted the lights glossy white and then Rub ‘n’ Buffed the mount in a bright brass to match the lantern light. I love the combination of these finishes. It may be hard to see in these pictures, but we have a temporary privacy roman shade on the window. It’s folded up at the top of the window, but we usually keep it pulled down. We’re going with plantation shutters, but are still waiting on those. But until we get them, we’ve got privacy! I wanted to use pink in here so badly, but instead of in a major way like the mirrors, I decided to use a subtle pop of pink in the towels. The pale pink is the perfect touch to bring out all of the pinks in the rug. The ratan baskets underneath the vanities are from Target and I love the little boho punch they add. We went ahead and got a glass door for the tiled shower. We went with a frameless one and I love the sleek look of it. We shopped around for quotes and ended up finding a significantly cheaper one than our original. The storage cabinet we’re building will go up against that wall there, so you can see it’s a little unfinished as far as trim goes. It’s gotten pushed behind other projects for now, so the shelves in our closets are serving as toiletry storage for now. You can read more about our tiled shower in the progress post, but our goal here was to choose inexpensive tile that could look true to an old house. We went with white subway walls and an octagon tile floor. I love how it looks with the wood floor. We went with a gray grout and I love the brass shower fixtures against it. The brass fixtures are Delta Champagne Bronze. Coming up, I’ll be sharing more details about the room, the source list, and the complete budget breakdown. *** You can see the rest of the rooms we’ve revealed in our Home Tour. *** That’s been The White Buffalo motto for the last three years and is still what I’m striving to do each day in our home and with our family. Yes, that often means tablescapes, inspiring interiors, and fun before and after renos. But it also means family. Faith. Joy. Struggles. Laughter. Health. You’ll find a little bit of all of that here as I share how we’re choosing to live with both style and purpose. A huge part of that is our journey toward a more natural life that’s focused on enjoying each and every moment together. A huge thanks to my main blog sponsor that makes this dream of mine possible:
Erika Torres says July 11, 2016 at 7:00 pm Looks beautiful especially the rug. But I have to ask where is the toilet paper and the toothpaste and toothbrushes on top of the vanities – you know, everyday things that I know most likely have been removed from these pics for the staged reveal. Reply
Lindsay says July 11, 2016 at 10:00 pm Thanks, Erika! The rug is my favorite too! I actually have a little basket for all of my nighttime and morning ritual stuff where my toothbrush stays. It all wouldn’t fit on the countertop for sure! And yes I did remove the toilet paper that usually sits on the back of our toilet. Installing a holder beside the toilet hasn’t happened yet (even though it seems like such a small thing!) and I didn’t want it to distract from the room we worked so hard on. Thanks for the comment! Janice says July 12, 2016 at 7:03 am It’s lovely! Great job on bringing so much character to the room. I love the color from the rug, and all the white gives it that nice clean, and fresh feeling. Where are the vanities from? I’ve been looking for something like that for our powder room redo. Reply
Lindsay says July 14, 2016 at 9:28 am Thanks so much, Janice! Your sweet comment made my day! We actually made them. You can find our tutorial post here: http://thewhitebuffalostylingco.com/diy-farmhouse-style-bathroom-vanities/ Reply
Austin says July 12, 2016 at 10:59 am Oh girl, you do NOT disappoint! So excited to see all those little details — mirror paint, light fixture colors — wrapped up and done so beautifully! And I’ve been eyeing those baskets for a few days, I just wish I had a need/spot for them! Reply
Lindsay says July 14, 2016 at 9:39 am Thanks so much, Austin! Your comments are always so encouraging and I needed that! I love these baskets so much! They’d be great in the corner of a living room with throws in it! Reply
Tay Olsen says July 12, 2016 at 5:31 pm Hi Lindsey, I can’t find the chandelier in the source you have listed. Can you tell me the name of it so I can search for it? Absolutely LOVE what you did with the bathroom. I am about to remodel mine and you have really inspired some ideas for me! Thanks, Tay Olsen Reply
Lindsay says July 14, 2016 at 9:31 am Tay, I just realized that! I hate it so bad, but I think it’s out of stock sadly. I’ll look around and see if I see anything else similar. That’s so sad! I love it so much! Reply
Kate says July 12, 2016 at 9:44 pm Hi Lindsey – beautiful bathroom. Was wondering if you would share the inner dimensions of the shower and how the size is working for you with the corner seat? I am planning a small master bathroom and having a really hard time balancing shower size with rest of bathroom size, yours looks just about right! Reply
Lindsay says July 14, 2016 at 9:26 am Thanks Kate! Yes, absolutely! This shower is 3 ft. wide by 4.5 ft long. We do love it! Our last shower was the same width, but was 5 ft. deep and I will say, that extra length did make a lot of difference. If you have space for it, I’d go for that, though this is enough. This bath, while a really good size, was tough to figure out with all we wanted in here. We planned it down to the inch. We love the corner seat! It’s really nice to have that and while it does take away a bit of the depth, it’s huge to have! Reply
Jen says July 13, 2016 at 10:49 am I’ve been waiting for this post!! I love how everything came together, so much personality and unique pieces. The green on the mirrors was the perfect choice too! I know you just answered a very similar question, but I’d love to know how/where you hide all the everyday stuff. You mentioned a basket, so like a shower caddy type deal? Do you just load/pack it up after you use it, and pull it out everyday? Cause that’s not a bad idea?! Personally my master bathroom drives me crazy… we have awkward storage and no matter how hard we try ( aka I TRY) I always feel like the everyday items, hair dryer, deodorants, brush, etc etc etc always seem to find there way to the counter, on top of the’pretty’ shelves just everywhere. Would love to know some tricks or if you’ve got a system that works =) Once again what a magical, fun room… and that tub is what dreams are made of Reply
Lindsay says July 14, 2016 at 9:38 am Jen, that’s a great question! I’ll answer more of those questions in the source and detail post, but I have a basket for my different “categories.” I have a basket of hair stuff where all of my hair dryer, straightener, product, etc. goes. I have a small make-up bag. I have a basket for my nighttime/morning routine with everything I use then. Our plan is to build a big cabinet right behind my vanity where I’ll store these baskets on each shelf. For now, they’re in my closet on the shelving unit I have, which is still only two steps away. It’s a great way to organize! I’ve actually always done something like this because I’ve never had a vanity with much storage. Even our first one had drawers, but they were too small for what I needed. This system works perfectly because I grab the basket, sit it out on the vanity, use what I need, then put it away so the vanity top stays clear. It works well for us! Reply
Becky in 'Bama says July 13, 2016 at 1:38 pm Ummmm… so has nobody but me wondered about that big ‘naked window and a nekkid body’ in front of it? Does the window face a very private space? Maybe you guys don’t care, but I’d prefer not to display my lumpy body to the world. LOL. BUT you guys are young…… NOTE: in my hallway, public bathroom, my toilet tissue is on a movable stand since I have no actual place to hang a tissue holder. Reply
Lindsay says July 14, 2016 at 9:35 am Becky, I’m so glad you mentioned that! I completely forgot to mention that in the post. It’s not a naked window! We are going to install plantation shutters, but are still waiting on them. They can take forever to come in! But we’re currently using a temporary roman privacy shade from Lowe’s. It’s folded up at the top in these pictures, which is hard to see, but you may be able to if you look close. Then, it easily folds down and is completely private! We usually just leave it down, but I wanted an open window and light for the pictures. Thanks! Reply
