UncategorizedLooking Back on Creating with the Stars April 17, 2014 I am so proud to have finished third in the final round of Creating with the Stars. It was such an honor to be chosen as a contestant to begin with! I never expected to make it all the way to the final round, but I am so grateful. I’m so thankful to all of you for your amazing support of me! The comments and e-mails made me seriously feel the love. Thank y’all! Participating in this contest was more difficult than I ever thought it would be. But it was also amazing and the best way I can describe how it felt is to say that I was continually on a creative high. I love dreaming up and creating projects, but I was honestly concerned about the time constraints on this one. I found out each Wednesday that I had made it onto the next round and that round’s project was due on Saturday. I brainstormed my idea for each week on Monday and Tuesday, but didn’t start any work or buy any materials until I heard the results on Wednesday. The biggest reason for that was that after the previous week, I needed a break! But considering that we’re always on a budget around here, it was nice not to spend any money unnecessarily until we knew it was needed. So, needless to say, I was really concerned about coming up with ideas and carrying them out in that short time frame. But it blew me away. Even though I’m ready for a break now, I loved constantly creating. It gave me such a taste for what it’ll be like when I can do this full-time come June and I’ve got to say, I cannot wait. I poured my heart and soul into these projects and couldn’t be prouder of how they turned out. My biggest goal was infusing every little detail with some genuine “me.” I wanted to create projects that were my style completely. If you remember, I was FLYING MY STYLE FREAK FLAG! And I have to say, I think I flew it proudly. Let’s take a little look back at my four creations. For the first week of competition, I knocked off some a tie-dye shower curtain and took the concept of a marble waterfall island and created an inspired desk. space does so much for my creative juices. Working in here really keeps me on that creative high! For the second week, I painted a kilim inspired pattern on my wall and painted some furniture. The funny thing about this is that this wall is actually in my office. We weren’t allowed to use any room in our house that would be recognizable. This was the only room in our little cottage that you guys wouldn’t recognize! So it double-dutied for two projects. I had planned to paint over this kilim wall, but after all of the time and work, I’m having a hard time doing that. I’m going to try and find a way to blend it into my office design. Plus, it’s a great view from the desk! Just like the chair, it really inspires me. For week three, I turned an old dough bowl into a coffee table and created a DIY Moroccan Wedding Blanket. I so loved how this week turned out, but it made me sad because I want this whole vignette in my house every single day! We staged this at my good friend, Jessica’s, house. We brought in the rugs, the table, the blanket, and some accessories, but the rest was Jessica’s. I love her mid-century love seat and art and was so grateful that they let us use a corner of their living room. I’m bringing in some of these items in our living room to give it a little refresh. I’ll be sharing them soon. And for the last and final week, I did my favorite project yet. Y’all know we added a master suite onto this house when we bought it. We installed floor-to-ceiling board and batten in the bedroom last summer, but that was as far as we got with decorating it and giving it some personality. I knew this room would be perfect for home decor. Waking up in this room the last couple of days has made me so giddy. It’s the perfect retreat that I had pictured in my head. Now that the contest is over, I’ll be able to share more details, more photos, and all of the tutorials for these projects! I absolutely can’t wait to share this with y’all.
