Home DecorA Little Valentine’s House Tour February 10, 2017I want our home to come alive with the changing holidays and seasons for my kids. I want it to always feel festive, special, and for them. For different seasons, I’ve started changing up our color scheme and adding in a few new garlands and touches to make the holiday come alive! Lately, I’ve had pink on the brain. I wanted to do a little Valentine’s decorating for Rosie and us and Rosie is currently OBSESSED with pink. She gasps and points out anything that’s pink, “Ahhh, pink flower! Ahhh pink! pink! pink!” Her birthday party is coming up in a few weeks and I’ll be sharing some of the inspiration for that next week. But I decided to combine my vision for the two and kill two birds with one stone! I had a blast painting some new art for our house last weekend. I don’t do it that often, but when I do, I LOVE it. It’s so nice to just shut out the world and create just because you love it and see where it ends up. I’ve got to make more room for that in my creative life! Some of you may remember that I got this crazy urge to paint the day before I had Rosie – last burst of nesting energy! So this past weekend, when I started painting and told my husband our house just really needed some bright, colorful art, he got a little concerned…but thankfully, no baby! I’m still eight weeks away. Just creative energy! I relied on all shades of pink, fresh flowers, and some feminine details for our little Valentine’s touches. My goal was to work with what I already had as much as possible, so just switching up the color scheme some can be a great way to add some new holiday cheer. I may add a bit more hearts and true holiday fun in coming years as Rosie grows, but for this year, this was just right and feels so festive to me! In the kitchen, it made a huge difference to change out the landscape on the hood for a vintage floral that had my purples, pinks, and reds in it. I switched out the blue glass on our shelves for some touches of pink and the fresh flowers on the island are my favorite little touch. Flowers, flowers, everywhere! I definitely wanted a little rose bouquet for our Rosie. She loves flowers right now and has been asking for me to hold her so she can see them 🙂 Our red and pink rug sure is a fit with this new color scheme in here! I love sprucing up the other side of the kitchen with garlands on that window! I hung the little Moroccan twinkle lights down the sides and then made a quick tassel garland with yarn and white and pink tassels. I tried out some different diffuser combos to find the perfect Valentine’s Day scent and died when I smelled rose and grapefruit! You only need two drops of rose oil or so (that stuff is very potent, but amazing!) and I did about eight drops of grapefruit! Within minutes, our house was filled with the sweetest, florally smell. I had it running before I went to pick up Rosie from her little morning school and when I came back, the smell greeted me at the door…so far away! Better than any candle I used to burn 🙂 I think that’ll be our new mixture through spring! While I painted last Sunday, Rosie jumped in as well creating whatever her little heart desired on canvas. She loves to create! I love having this one here displayed. This girl is so much fun. Now she’s runs around our house, “Oooh pink!” Gotta’ love it. Stay tuned for Part II of my little tour on Monday! I’ll be sharing some festive pink updates to the living room and playroom. After finishing this, I’m thinking these changes may stay around through spring! While it’s Valentine’s colors, it feels so springy to me, so maybe even consider this an early spring tour as well! This warmer weather we’ve been having here in SC has me in the mood to brighten things up, get outside, and fill my home with flowers. And here’s a little up close of the dining room abstract I did. I don’t claim to be an artist at all, y’all, but it is so fun! I just grabbed an old large canvas I had stored away, got outside on the picnic table, and started playing. It sure does brighten up our really dark dining space. *** That’s been The White Buffalo motto for the last three years and is still what I’m striving to do each day in our home and with our family. Yes, that often means tablescapes, inspiring interiors, and fun before and after renos. But it also means family. Faith. Joy. Struggles. Laughter. Health. You’ll find a little bit of all of that here as I share how we’re choosing to live with both style and purpose. A huge part of that is our journey toward a more natural life that’s focused on enjoying each and every moment together. A huge thanks to my main blog sponsor that makes this dream of mine possible:
Susan Lawson says February 10, 2017 at 1:49 pm You have such a fun house! LOVE your kitchen. My daughter (almost 31) was also obsessed with pink and still loves it very much. I think there must be some developmental connection because just about every little girl I’ve known goes through that stage. For me it was lavender, though. Anyway, am getting ready to add a little pink to my OWN home, in the master bedroom. Thanks for sharing yours. PS: Love the art, too, especially Rosie’s contribution and your placement of it. laura s says February 11, 2017 at 11:58 am After your mentioning it, I want to try Abundance oil. Does it have a strong patchouli scent? I saw that is the 3rd ingredient in Abundance, but I don’t care for patchouli. Also, would you be willing to share stories of your experience with Abundance? You can email me if that is more comfortable to share more specifically – I am a fellow YL member and know the rules;) Thank you!! Reply
Lindsay says February 27, 2017 at 9:28 am Hi Laura! It does have a strong scent, but I haven’t used Patchouli, so I’m not sure about that? I love the scent, but I do think it’s stronger than some, so probably depends on personal preference? For me, Abundance uplifts and helps me have joy and focus. When I have a ton to accomplish that feels insurmountable with work usually, this one really helps me calm down and tackle it…and I always notice a feeling of abundance as crazy as that sounds! I get more done than I usually would’ve and stay calmer! It’s a must for me 🙂 Reply

Rita McNeill says March 5, 2017 at 1:09 pm Just discovered your blog; really enjoy your style and commentary a bunch, Lindsay! I too love YL oils and would love to know the brand / source of the diffuser you picture on the Valentine blog. The shape and earthy wood body of it are SO much nicer than plastic ones!! Thanks, and many blessings to you. Reply
