UncategorizedLiebster Award July 10, 2012One of my favorite bloggers, Kelly from Talk of the House, just nominated me for a “Liebster Award.” This is an award for up and coming blogs for under 200 followers. Kelly told me that Liebster is a German word that means sweetest, kindest, nicest, dearest, beloved, lovely, pleasant, valued, cute, endearing. I must say, I feel so honored that Kelly thought me and this blog fitting of that! I am so appreciative!!! Especially coming from Kelly. Have you guys read her blog? I see why she was given this award first…she is all of the things listed above and more! Her design blog is so inspiring to me and she is so sweet. She recently posted about designing a dream beach house. I love what she put together! Y’all really need to go check it out. So, in getting the award, I’m supposed to share five random facts about myself with y’all. So here goes: 1.) I used to be terrified of dogs. And yes, we just got one of the biggest dogs you can get! My famliy thinks this is hilarious when they see me with Gracie. When I was younger, if a tiny little dog ran into the room, I screamed and ran, haha. I’m not exactly sure what happened with this one. I posted recently about longing to be a woman of adventure and I think this goes along with that. I am now officially a dog person and LOVE IT SO MUCH! I love being around Great Danes and am so excited for my little one to keep growing. 2.) I try to be a weekday vegan (thank you to my friend Jessica who coined this term), yet my favorite food is steak. Doesn’t make sense, right? I’m definitely not perfect at it, but when we’re home and in our regular routine, we try to limit our intake of dairy and meat. It’s just for health reasons, not moral reasons, so when we’re out to eat (and paying more for food) or on the weekend, we let ourselves enjoy more of our favorites. 3.) Going with the last one, I have grown to LOVE almond milk. I’ve always loved milk. In college, I would drink a gallon of skim milk by myself in two to three days. I thought this would be the hardest part of letting go of dairy, but vanilla almond milk tastes so good and makes me feel much better. 4.) I will be 25 in two months. I know this is still young, but it feels weird to be in my mid-twenties and actually say that I’m 25. For some reason, I’ve always thought of this as a weird milestone. 5.) I’m a major overachiever. I always was when it came to schoolwork, but I also was involved in everything. I had a really hard time saying no and I still do. I’ve definitely gotten better in this area, but always try to cram way more into my days than can possibly fit. I really relate to this that I found on Pinterest… The problem with this is that when I don’t achieve what I had planned, I get frustrated with myself and end up beating myself up for a while instead of just keeping at it and working hard at these things. I’m working on this 🙂 Okay, enough about me. *** Now onto the part where I nominate another deserving blogger…or rather two bloggers. First up is my new friend Lorri from Return to Home Interiors. Lorri and I connected about a month ago, had a long and encouraging phone conversation, and have been following each other ever since. Lorri, her husband, and their son are moving into their first home in New York in August. Here’s a photo of their sweet new abode: It is so cute and I can’t wait to follow what she does with it on her blog. She is also pretty close to having their second child, a little girl. Can you say a lot on her plate??? Go on over and say hi. Lorri is wonderful and I love her eye for design. Plus, there should be some really fun posts to come as she starts on their new place. *** My second blog award winner is not technically a design blogger, but a writer and writing blogger. She is one of my dearest friends, Kristina. Kristina and I went to the same MFA program and became fast writing friends and “real life” friends. In fact, Kristina was the one who first introduced me to blogging! I really owe so much to her. This blogging world has become such a part of my life and I still remember the first time at one of our residencies that she pulled out her computer and showed me a home decor blog that she read. I was hooked and have been ever since. So thanks, Kristina, for changing my little world! Her blog is so clever and always inspires me. She is so kind and truly lives up to everything that “Liebster” means, so I had to pass it on to her! She is expecting their first baby soon and I am so excited to read all about it. Go on over and say hello to her at Kris Atkins Writes. *** Thanks again Kelly and thanks to these two bloggers who have inspired me!
Kristina says July 11, 2012 at 12:18 am You are so sweet! And I haven’t even posted in two weeks because of Baby Atkins. Silly thing, already taking up my time. 🙂 Lorri’s house is so cute–the perfect American home. Love it! And YES, I am an over achiever. Well, I try to over achieve, but definitely usually end up biting off more than I can chew … as you saw from my recent blog post! 🙂 Reply
Lindsay says July 11, 2012 at 10:46 am Well, Baby Atkins is quite a reason to be distracted from blogging!!! So excited for all you have going on. Reply
Kelly @ Talk of the House says July 11, 2012 at 9:13 am Lindsay, You were more than deserving of the award! I can so identify with that John Burrough quote above. I try to cram too much in and give up my sleep…not a smart thing. It does catch up with me. A vegan whose favorite food is steak is hilarious! Reply
