Kitchen & Dining Reno Progress

Thank y’all so much for your sweet words on our kitchen plans!  It’s so cool to hear that y’all are sensing what we’re feeling…this project is pretty special to us.  I’m dying to see this kitchen come together and seeing this last round of progress has me so excited!

Things are moving so fast over here, which is a good thing!  Move in day is rapidly approaching.  If you missed the before’s of this house, check them out here and the first round of reno progress here.  First, here’s a little reminder of the kitchen layout:

And now, here’s a look at how the kitchen is looking these days:

This view is from the front of the house in the living room.  You can see the peninsula is installed where we removed the wall.  We still have to put in the beams, so there will be that visual division put in, but it will remain open.

The dining banquette isn’t finished yet – it’ll be an L-shape that runs down the window wall and down the peninsula, but you can start to see how it fits in here.  The peninsula and banquette will be wrapped in the same shiplap you see on the kitchen walls, so it’ll visually just continue throughout the space.

I know the banquette looks pretty low here, but we’ll be doing a super thick foam custom for comfort, so we needed to leave room for that.  Also, the top of the banquette will be hinged and lift up so we’ll be able to store a ton in it.

I’m excited about how tied these spaces are.  I can really picture how we’ll use them with our young kids.  I can just see me cooking and working in the kitchen while Rosie and Dax color at the table.

Oh I am LOVING all the shiplap.  It’ll be painted white and the patterned tile panel will be straight ahead there behind the hood and over the stove.  You can also see where the two sconces will go – the tile “panel” will go just past those on either side all the way to the crown molding.

While it looks worse than it is in these photos, you’ll notice the ceiling is a bit uneven….it’s a trademark of old houses, but it’s worse in this one than any we’ve faced.  We’ve been able to fix some of it with what we’ve replaced, but the trim will have to be caulked well.  Have to take that with the all the character they have, I guess.

One of my favorite things about this kitchen is the huuuuuge window behind what will be the farmhouse sink.

Like I mentioned in the design plans post, the kitchen windowsill is 6″ deep and nearly 80″ wide!  I can’t wait to make use of that for plants and a little indoor garden of sorts.

Let’s take a look at the other side of the room.

This built-in pantry area is going to be so functional for us!  It has so much storage , but doesn’t take up a ton of space like a big closet.  All lot more shelves will be installed in it and the spacing will be different.

The “baking station” will go there in the center and the fridge will be to the right.

All the shiplap building things in makes me happy!

And the other side of the room:

It’s amazing…this house is definitely small, but with the opened-up walls and the layout, it actually feels spacious now!  I love that these main living spaces are all so “together.”  I think it’s perfect for the season our young family is in.

Lots, lots, lots more to do before we move in…wait for it…NEXT WEEK!  We’re furiously moving and there is so much still to share!  Thanks for following in this journey, y’all!

That’s been The White Buffalo motto for the last three years and is still what I’m striving to do each day in our home and with our family.  Yes, that often means tablescapes, inspiring interiors, and fun before and after renos.  But it also means family.   Faith.  Joy.  Struggles.  Laughter.  Health.  You’ll find a little bit of all of that here as I share how we’re choosing to live with both style and purpose.

A huge part of that is our journey toward a more natural life that’s focused on enjoying each and every moment together.  A huge thanks to my main blog sponsor that makes this dream of mine possible:

I love it! It’s still in construction, but already feels like a home! Great work! Have you considered using a bench (or even chair-height stools) on the living room side of the table? Those will be so close to the living room that I can see guests sitting in those seats but turning around to face the action in the living room!

My eyes just got HUGE when I read “next week”! Ha ha. If anyone can do it, though, it’s y’all! πŸ™‚

Wow next week!!! I hope you do a “downsizing” post about what to keep and your process through it all! The ship lap is looking awesome – and I’m sure once everything is painted the bowed ceiling areas will become invisible.

You guys are killing it, per usual. You have such vision! It is going to be awesome! Love following along! ??

Wow! What progress, it looks great! Thinking ahead and about storage issues in my own tiny craftsman- I’m hoping you can share with us how you are working in storage for: trash/recycling, bills/calendar/planning, makeup/hair products and your oil collection! πŸ™‚ Keep up the great work- I’m excited to open your emails!

I am loving your renovations. I have always been drawn to small houses with character. This house certainly has character and what you were doing really enhances it and makes it better. Great job!

Looking good! It’s so fun to see it finally starting to come together. I love when things get to the putting back together stage after the tear down stage haha. I can’t wait until we’re at this stage with our kitchen! Hopefully the progress keeps trucking along before your move in, it looks like you still have a chunk of work ahead of you! πŸ™‚

This looks amazing! We have also recently remodeled our kitchen, but trying to figure out the open shelving on the far end of the kitchen. I love yours, they look like floating shelves. Do you have any information or sources for yours?

Terry, do you mean on our current kitchen? Not the new one featured in this post? If so, they are floating. We got steel brackets on Etsy and built a “box” to be the shelf that slides onto the mounted brackets on the wall. If you search floating shelf brackets they should come up!

I love your letter to Dax before he was born. I love your strong statement of faith and that your husband is the leader of your little family. You have married well and your children are privileged to grow up in a family of love and a deep understanding of God and you put the motto of always puting God first into practical ways in your life.
