UncategorizedInspired Design Challenge Week 5: World Market Kilim Rugs August 11, 2013 For the last week of our Inspired Design Challenge, I’ll be talking about how I knocked off some World Market kilim rugs with my own DIY Kilim Pillows. And y’all, these rang in at $3 each!!! This week we were inspired by World Market. I love their global feel. I know I probably use the word “kilim” in nearly every post, but I seriously love that stuff. It fits in really well with World Market’s overall style. They have several right now that I’m loving. {via} I found these 2×3′ rag rugs at Fred’s (a local dollar store) for $2.00 each. I immediately fell in love with the colors and prints. Then it hit me why I loved them so much! They have a lot of similarities to that kilim/navajo style. My first thought was to turn them into a large area rug made up of different prints. I pulled about twenty off the shelves and tried different combinations of them for about twenty minutes, but nothing seemed quite right. Then it hit me… {via} I love kilim pillows and wanted a bunch for our house. Umm…have ya’ll seen the price on those things??? $80 for one pillow? I think not. Now, I recognize that isn’t a horrible price for an old kilim pillow with tons of history, but it is so not in my budget. I wanted the look for less. In come these lovely rugs. Even though they are rugs, they aren’t very thick so you can just sew them with your machine. Several of these I just doubled so that the front and back are both the rug. On others, I wanted a certain part of the rug showing on the front, so I used a plain fabric for the back. This one is my favorite. I wanted the entire print of the rug shown and the fringe on the ends. I l0ve the blues and greens. Sewing pillow covers is a really quick and easy project with a machine, so the time on this one is very low. And at $2 each, you really can’t beat the impact it has! Now, I just need to spread them around the house. Is it bad that I want to make like fifty more? Can you have too many kilim pillows? On a side note, my accordion light fixture (inspired two weeks ago by West Elm) was featured yesterday on Knock Off Decor. So grateful and excited! Y’all go say hello 🙂 Now, go check out what the other ladies are up to. I know it’s going to be good! 1. Sara from Embrace My Space 2. Jennifer from Brave New Home 3. Kristin from Bliss at Home 4. Angie from Angie’s Roost Well, girls, it’s been a great run. I’ll be doing a roundup at the end of these week with some of my favorite things these talented women have come up with!

Jennifer says August 12, 2013 at 11:26 am Wow, these are amazing! If I saw your finished product I would have never guessed these were made from $2 place mats. I had the best time with this series—it was a lot easier and funner than I thought it was going to be. Reply
