UncategorizedHow I Thrift July 12, 2011I’ve received some questions lately about how I find good items at thrift stores. I am amazed sometimes by how much great stuff we’ve found for really cheap. But, there’s no secret thrift store that always has good stuff. When I’m thrifting, I follow a few guidelines that I’ve heard elsewhere and some I’ve learned through experience. Here are some tips that work for me: 1. Go Often – While I do have my favorite stores that generally have better stuff, I NEVER find something every time I go. Take my author’s chair for example, this is the first thing I’ve bought at this Goodwill. Be patient, keep looking, and you will be rewarded with an awesome find – I know it! 2. Know if you’re looking for something specific – If you need a piece of furniture for a certain area or an accessory, go in with that in mind. Know the dimensions, if needed. With our dining room chandelier, we had the inspiration images and we’d been looking for a chandelier to transform for a while. So, when Chris came across this: he knew that it could become this because we knew what we were looking for: 3. Be Open-minded – You never know what a piece can become. As you look at a store, picture an old piece of furniture with a cool color of spray paint. Look beneath the surface and use your imagination! You never know what you might find. Good luck and happy thrifting!
