UncategorizedShop Love: Tastes Orangey April 26, 2013Welcome to another Friday Faves! Maybe I should name this series “Etsy Friday Faves.” I don’t know that every week will be Etsy focused, but I do love that site. Last week, we talked about Etsy Kindle covers because I had just won one! Exciting! Thanks for your great feedback on that. I ended up choosing #3 because I really wanted one that opened and closed like a book rather than a sleeve I had to take my Kindle out of. *** This week, we’re talking about art. Before I get to the artist and art I love, I have to give you a little background. I’ve never really been “into” art. Sure, I like pretty things on the walls and like buying pictures at thrift stores or framing things. But I’ve never been one to find favorite artists whose work just speaks to me. I didn’t totally understand that feeling. A pretty picture was just a pretty picture that I admired. I didn’t get the whole emotion piece, which is really strange because normally I find emotion in everything! I think I just hadn’t looked hard enough at art and really found an artist and style that made me feel something. Well, let me tell you, that is changing. I have recently discovered an artist who has quickly become my favorite and I now understand the idea that a piece of art can have movement, tell a story, and pack a whole lot of emotion into a flat image. I pinned two paintings from this artist a year or so ago onto my Art board, but never clicked over to her shop. I just loved that art and saved it there for when I needed some for our new home. But then, Whitney from The Curtis Casa posted one of her pieces a week or so ago. I sat staring at the screen for ten minutes or more. I don’t know what it was, but the piece just spoke to me.I love the abstract feel of it. The girl just standing in the woods had a powerful, lonesome feeling to me. It’s entitled “Watching Trees.” The artist I’m talking about is Clare Elsaesser from the shop Tastes Orangey. She is seriously talented. She uses lots of blues and greens in her work, which really appeals to me. Those are my colors of choice! I spent a while this week looking through her shop and picking out my favorites that I wanted in the home we’re renovating. I’m wanting to fill our home with these beauties! There are a lot of images today. I’m warning you now! I just couldn’t narrow down my faves, but each of them has a unique story that really speaks to me. She has a lot focused on florals. “Flower for Ines” “Navy and Yellow” But then she has several with a girl and flowers together. I LOVE these. “Rosie” I love this one…my name is actually Lindsay Rose and growing up, I was often called Rosie. In fact, Malachi will be calling me Aunt Rosie. So this one is pretty special to me. “Oh, Cecily” And one of my very favorites of all… “Happiness” Love the title. Don’t you just look at this picture and feel the joy? So free. She also has a series of sea and ocean paintings. We grew up going to a lake and I’ve always loved the water, but my husband has a deep love of the beach and its sparked a new appreciation in me. So, I’m loving these. I’m really drawn to the colors she uses here too. “Married to the Sea” “My Home is the Sea” “Undertow” I love the woman in each of these just immersed in the gorgeous blues and greens. I’m planning to put some of these in the master bathroom I’m currently designing. And then, she has a series on couples. Now these are filled with love and sweetness. I’m hoping to bring one or more of these into our master bedroom design. “Capszied” “Falling” “November” Can’t you just feel the love and emotion from these? And two more that don’t really fit in one of these categories, but I loved. “Tiny Pony” I like this one just because it’s a bit weird and the pony is gold. That’s enough for me. And then this last one I love so dearly. “Lost and Found” A girl welcoming home her dog. I can’t help but see me and Gracie in this one. Clare’s paintings really leave me speechless. Trust me, y’all will be seeing a lot more of these as we firm up our designs and I order some to feature on our walls. It would make me so happy walking past these each day. Very inspiring. Although, with my new love and appreciation, I may just stand in front of them and stare, getting nothing else done. Oh well, that’s a sacrifice I’m happy to make. These are all Giclee prints, which makes them much more reasonable. So you can have this gorgeous art in your home for much less than the price of an original. She does have some gorgeous originals, though. Go check out her shop! Happy weekend!
Jillian says April 26, 2013 at 1:36 pm Love! Lost & found is definitely my favorite. I have her “Otis” print in Anthony’s room. It looks just like Otto, and is stitched onto car stock. I adore all of her work. Great finds! Reply
Kristina says April 26, 2013 at 5:37 pm I pinned the “Married to the Sea”–probably from you! LOVE it. I love the couples ones too. Oooooh, I need one! And the prices are so insanely good. I know what I want for my birthday now (anniversary would be more apropo but I got my Utah and Charleston trips. 🙂 — Also, so excited to see you in less than two months!). Thanks for sharing! I heart her so much. Reply
Kelly - Talk of the House says April 27, 2013 at 8:16 am I am not much of an art person…although my mother has done many many pieces of oil on canvas. You will see photograph after photograph around here. BUT I loved the couples pictures you posted above – especially November. I think it’s the dark and coziness of it that is so appealing to me. Thank you for helping introducing this artist to me. Reply
whitney @ thecurtiscasa says April 27, 2013 at 11:11 am Aww yay! I stumbled upon her etsy shop and totally fell in love. Adding artwork to our home is definitely on our list of priorities 🙂 My parents found an artist in Ashville, NC that they love, and anytime they needed artwork they went back to him. His name is Wayne Trapp and his pieces are gorgeous. They ended up buying 4 large paintings, one for each of the kids to inherit. Pretty neat for our family, I think! I’m hoping to find an artist we love and do the same thing! Reply
