UncategorizedFinding Style Fridays: Calm, Cool, Collected February 7, 2014Happy Finding Style Fridays! I am so excited to have Beth of designPOST interiors! Beth is so kind and has killer style! So, I was so excited when she said yes to a Finding Style Fridays. Welcome, Beth! *** Hey Lindsay’s people! I am so excited to be here today sharing a little of my style evolution. When Lindsay first asked me to take part in her Finding My Style series, I’ll be honest, I panicked a little because I wasn’t sure I could really define my style. I am constantly changing things in my house and it takes long time for me to really like a room and consider it done. But then I realized that the series is called FINDING My Style…meaning it’s an ongoing process. And you know what? At the end of the day I don’t want to take decorating too seriously. It should be a fun process of gathering things and putting them together in a way that makes you happy. And that’s what I try to do in my home! So I am summing my style up as Calm, Cool, & Collected. Not your typical adjectives, but I think they define my house perfectly. Calm This is actually an ironic adjective for me to pick considering my house is filled with kids. Loud kids who play rough and break things on the daily, but I am referring to the background. One thing I have definitely learned about “my style” is that I prefer a calming neutral background. About a year ago I decided to repaint over all of the impulsively selected paint colors in our house and repainted almost everything white (Benjamin Moore’s Dove White). It was a great way to create a clean slate and to allow myself more freedom when layering on the accessories. I love the clean crisp look of white, whether it’s on furniture or walls. My kitchen after repainted with white paint… {more details on my kitchen here} My master bedroom is my little calm retreat… {more details on my master bedroom here} White planked walls in the boys room…I love a good coastal vibe! {more details on the boys room here} Cool Cool may look different to different people, but as long as my house makes me happy I find it cool. I love that our house is a mix of old and new and that it is full of projects that were made by us. And nothing is cooler to me than looking around and seeing a space that has been created solely from my imagination…well, and help from Pinterest 🙂 My latest DIY art pieces & tassels… {more details on my art here} Hands-down my favorite room in our house…I snuck in some industrial elements among the glam. {More details on Harper’s nursery here} Created our own little bar station… {more details on our DIY bar here} A discarded chair got a little make over in the boys room… {more info on this chair makeover here} Collected This word perfectly describes the style of our house. It hasn’t always been on purpose but whether it was due to inherited items, random purchases, or merging our evolving styles our house has a lot of layers. I like the organic feel of rooms that have had things added over time. One way I try to achieve this look if it hasn’t happened on it’s own is by layering textures and patterns. The more you layer it on, the more lived in a house feels. I want our house to feel comfortable to everyone who enters and a lived in space, to me, is always a warm welcome. I display my jewelry on special wine bottles… {info on my jewelry organization here} Always styling and restyling all my collected goodies… {info on my IKEA shelves and again here} My collection of favorite photos is growing… {info on my gallery wall} My favorite part of finding my style is that it is never really done. I would be bored out of my mind if all my projects were done. I love dreaming up new ideas for our space and I can’t wait to see how my style evolves over time. Thanks so much for having me Lindsay, I had a blast!
