UncategorizedFinding Style Fridays – Bright & Cozy Coastal Style February 21, 2014 I am so excited to introduce you to my really good friend, Summer, from Simple Stylings. I met Summer at the Allume Conference this past fall and just fell in love with her! She’s so kind, funny, gorgeous, and has killer style. I know y’all will love her too! Take it away, Summer! *** Hi everyone!!! Lindsay, thank you so much for having me here for Finding Style Fridays! I am Summer from Simple Stylings and I am honored to be a part of this series to share how I came into my bright & cozy coastal style. The great thing about the concept of style, particularly finding your own, is that it is ever changing. I find myself constantly moving things around and tweaking pieces I already have, but I always come back to my roots which is my love of the coast and the water. I call my style coastal because I am drawn to ocean hues, sea grass, slipcovers, driftwood, and capiz shells, but my love of the water and inevitably my style was born from being raised on Lake Norman, NC. Boating, fishing, skiing, swimming, you name it, was ingrained in me from the beginning. My mom has amazing style and has always decorated our home with a beachy vibe and although our take on it is different she had a huge influence on me. When trying to find or define your own style I believe it’s important to think about what really inspires you. Grab a piece of paper and without thinking write down 10 or 20 items or images that come to mind that you love and you can probably figure out your style quicker than you think. Some of the things that inspire me are anchors, waves, cabana stripes, burlap, coral, oyster shells, toe prints in the sand, rickety piers and pilings, rope, old wood, hydrangeas, southern architecture. I believe that you create a happier home when you surround yourself with things that make you happy. You can read more about our navy blue chalk painted vanity and anchor knobs here. I love light. I keep the blinds open as long as the sun in the sky allows. Bright, fresh walls make me smile. And I would be lying if I said I that I don’t love a great sparkly accent. Note to self: a disco ball is in my future. I also include cozy as part of my evolving style definition because that is how I want my home to feel and it’s the most important thing to me when decorating. I want my son to feel comfortable in our home and not like he is going to break everything he touches. That’s just not who we are although I love looking at gorgeous photos of pristine homes that are museum worthy! Sometimes you just have to choose a giant, comfy sectional over a sleek sofa and chairs setup and hope that you can add your own accessories that communicate your style 🙂 This may be one of my favorite spots in my home. You can read about my master bedroom coffee station here. And of course the pups have to have a cozy and stylish place to be as well! You can read about our favorite doggie beds here. Another thing I have to mention when it comes to style is my love/hate relationship with the internet. I love pinterest and houzz and all of the sites that give us endless amounts of ideas and inspiration, however, if I peruse too much I find that I just get confused and lose my own sense of style. But, I also LOVE finding new and unique ways to add more coastal vibe to our home. I am currently working on our office/studio space makeover and I’m going WAY out of my style comfort zone but the tools the internet holds gives me the courage to attempt it. Check back soon to see how I incorporate our bright & cozy coastal style into a new and modern office space. Thanks again Lindsay for having me and allowing me to share my little style story with all of you today! Isn’t that White Buffalo amazing y’all! *** Isn’t she great? Thank you, Summer!
