UncategorizedDay Three: Carrying Out Your Theme July 3, 2012Hey y’all! I’m sorry I’m a day late with this post. Yesterday got away from me. I’ve been working on a new venture that I can’t wait to share with y’all. It’ll be a little bit before I’m able to, but the next few months will be pretty interesting around here. So yesterday was very busy and unfortunately, I didn’t get to this post. Back to our little series here… I talked last week about party basics and how to choose a theme. But choosing a theme is just the beginning. Once you’ve decided on the perfect theme for your party, you then have to figure out how to bring that theme to life at the event. There are a couple of quick steps to help with this: 1.) Dream Big – let yourself think about the ideal representation of your theme. If money was no object and you could do anything you wanted with the party, what would that be? This will give you a vision to work towards. Once you have a vision in mind comes my favorite part… 2.) Shop the House – once you know where you’re headed, go through the house and think about what you already have that fits the theme. This makes decorating for the party affordable. Dreaming big can also mean cost. But each time I do this, I’m always surprised what we already have that works! For example, with our nautical party, I knew I wanted lanterns down the center of the table. Mom had those on her porch! Then, I thought about other items that fit with the nautical idea. Rope and driftwood always come to mind when I think of the beach and ships. We used driftwood and rope for this sign in our bathroom last year: We had several pieces of driftwood and some rope left over in our basement. It worked perfectly down the center of the table around the lanterns: Dad had this weathered oar in the garage and we brought it out to display on the gift table: Shopping the house really is the best way to decorate a party. We found such great things to use that didn’t even occur to me when initially picking the theme. 3.) The Little Details – after you’ve got the basic decor down, think about the little details. What are small things you can add that will really bring the theme home? After we had the basics of this party figured out, we brainstormed about other things that made us think of the sea. We used a message in a bottle to hold one of dad’s gifts: Then, we tied twine around the napkins and looped in lifesavers. This was my favorite part! We also brought in this nautical compass graphic that I found online on the message in a bottle and also on the penant banner. Still coming up on this series are table linens and menu and food display. I’m taking a short break for the 4th tomorrow and will be back with our final two days Thursday and Friday. Thanks for joining on on…
