UncategorizedDay Five: 31 Days of Finishing Rooms October 5, 2011Okay guys, as promised, I am back with our finished media table. This one is making me really happy. Just for a quick reminder, here’s what our media cabinet has looked like for the last year… This is a dresser from IKEA. Nothing wrong with it at all, but to me, it just looked like a big black blob on this wall combined with the black TV. Plus, it’s about a foot taller than a traditional media cabinet so we have to look up at the TV from the couch. We got used to it, but it definitely wasn’t ideal. And, thankfully, we no longer have to look up. We were going to build a media cabinet, but knew it would be a little while before we could get to that. So, at my husband’s sweet prodding, I became open to finding the right dresser and refinishing it. On my birthday, my husband called from a local Salvation Army and said he’d found our media cabinet (great birthday present!). I came there to meet him and saw this: It was the right width and height, but I wasn’t so sure about the floral detailing on the door fronts. But at $40, it won me over and we brought her home. I knew I wanted a subtle color on it since everything else in the room is pretty neutral. This is a huge step for me adding color! I love the white, tan, and gray combo. We chose Valspar’s Everglade, which is a gray/green color. It looks a lot more like turquoise in these pictures, but in person, it has a lot more gray in it. {You’ll notice the barn door has moved…more on that to come!} And now with it painted and distressed, I like the floral detailing so much better than I originally did. I really like how the distressing turned out too. Chris’ best idea was to get rid of the two middle drawers… Framed them out and filled the holes to create these shelves… I love how it turned out. And of course, I had to throw in a little fall moment… More on the living room tomorrow… Thanks for stopping by!

Sara Davis says October 6, 2011 at 4:06 pm I need to come to YOUR thrift stores! Our community doesn’t seem to have good average stuff that is worth fixing up plus in this vacation town everything gets snagged fast. I want to come visit in person and see all these beautiful redos! Love this pop of color, good choice! Reply
