UncategorizedDay 18: 31 Days of Finishing Rooms October 18, 2011Hey guys! I’m back for a quick post today. Not feeling so good today and student mid-terms are tomorrow. So, it’s been a little rough around here. But all is good 🙂 Thanks for the advice on the lamps. It’s going to be a while until I get the nightstands. I’ve been searching for the right ones to redo for over a year now and have come up with nothing. So, it looks like we will make them. But they will be white. So, I think mercury glass is the right way to go. It will be interesting. I found one tutorial where it was done on the outside for an aged silver effect that reminded me of mercury glass. But maybe I shouldn’t have spoken that so soon! It may turn out more silvery than reflective mercury glass, but we will see! Today, I want to share a quick bargain with you guys that I will be putting to use in the bedroom. There is an empty wall right by the closet and the door. It is in need of a full length mirror! I’ve looked for one for a while, but they can be so expensive. Then, I found this one at Goodwill… …for $4. Yes, that’s right…$4! Now that I can afford! I like the wood color, but it’s actually not real wood. It’s kind of a plastic material. I would assume this is why it was $4, but hey, it’ll work! With primer, paint will stick to it and it has a real-looking wood grain. I’m thinking a shade of gray dry brushed with some white. Any suggestions? Be back tomorrow!
Linda @ MyCraftyHomeLife says October 19, 2011 at 9:24 am Lindsay, this is so fun to watch you do everything first! Then, if it works out for you, and it has so far, i’ll jump in and do mine over the long, cold, dark, ugly winter! Anyway, build the tables? You GO GIRL! As for the mirror, so cute, here is a finish I have been dying to try….you go first (your colors, obviously) http://www.thenester.com/2010/07/how-to-paint-furniture-like-a-real-pro.html Once the mirror is up, you can make more of those great picture shelves you just did, and put your jewelry, a small vase, whatever…on it (just a thought). Good luck on mid-terms. Reply
Kristina says October 19, 2011 at 1:47 pm Oh, good to know there’s a way to do the mercury glass-look on the outside! I wanted to do that for my living room, but was discouraged by what I’d found (and relayed to you yesterday). So I CAN do it on the outside. Yippee! Haha, I’m a dork. Reply
