Come Tour Our Home Addition!

Good morning, friends!

Today is an exciting day for The White Buffalo!  As promised, I’m taking you inside our new home addition that was framed out last week over at The Buffalo Bungalow.  The process of renovating this house is so different than the two we’ve done previously.  Even though we added on at our current cottage, the house was already 1200 square feet and we added on a small 300 square foot master suite.

Not the case with The Buffalo Bungalow.  If you’ve been around here for very long, you know that the house started out at 740 square feet and we’ve added on 1,000 square feet – a huge undertaking!  But after all of the dreaming and planning, getting to walk around in these spaces is amazing.

You’re going to need this floor plan reminder to help visualize where we’re at:

Final buffalo bungalow floor plan with existing house

Remember, the existing house is highlighted in pink and we’re going to be looking at the addition spaces.  If you missed yesterday’s exterior tour, check that out first.  You can see the front porch extension and the footprint of our house from the outside.

And if you’re just starting on this journey with us, you should definitely check out all of the befores of this place and the in-progress shots (Phase 1, Phase 2, Phase 3).  That’ll give you a better frame of reference and show you how far this place has already come.

Let’s get started!

When you come in the front door, this is now your view:

Yes, there’s a little peek of some foyer progress I’ll talk about tomorrow.  But you can now see straight to the back of the house.  The kitchen sink will be under that window you see, so you’ll have a pretty view of the kitchen from the moment you enter.

As you move on into the house, remember the dining area will be on your right as you head to the kitchen.

Let’s check out the master area first.

master vault

Yes, the master now has a vaulted ceiling!  Remember I talked about our plans to vault the big ceiling in the living and kitchen space?  Well, when we were planning this out with our contractor, Travis, he asked if we wanted vaults in any of these spaces.  He said it wouldn’t cost anymore money to build it that way, but it would make them feel bigger and give them some charm.

We said yes!!!!

master vault 2

These vaults will most likely just be sheet rock for now.  While we’d love to install gorgeous white plank ceilings or rafters on all of them, the budget is going a little crazy and we’re trying to cut corners where we can.  This can easily be added later.

When you enter the master to the right, you see the master bath door.

You can see our design plans for this room here, but the vault made this room even better.  And some of you suggested moving Chris’ closet door into the bath and thankfully, he agreed!  So glad it isn’t taking up room in the bedroom.

The view when you enter will be my favorite thing:

Remember, tub tucked under window with mirrored vanities and tiled panels on either side?

IMG_4605

Yes, our bathroom has a fifteen foot vault.  Not something I EVER pictured because in my mind that says $$$$$, but at no more cost because the space was just there in the roofline, I’ll take it!

The shower will tuck right into this corner.  And we have a plan to utilize that planking that was the old house exterior that makes this room to me.

When you head back out of the master and through the dining area, we open up into the kitchen and living to the left.

Having an open kitchen and living room makes me oh so happy.  I’ve loved having that in our current house and am so excited to have that as babies grow.  We can all be concentrated in one spot!  And the ceiling.  Oh, that ceiling.

This is the view from the kitchen of the living room above.

We’re still debating how we’re going to finish the ceiling.  You all had some great suggestions and we’re currently weighing out what we’d love to do vs. what we can afford.  Isn’t that always the case?

That little framed out closet is the pantry space.

In the space left behind it, we’ll be doing wall-to-wall built-ins, so it won’t feel like so much of a step back.

And the view of the kitchen from the living room:

Now, the last room on the tour is the office and playroom.  See that framed out door on the left in the kitchen?  Let’s head through there.

Just as I’d hoped for working and photographing, this room is going to have awesome light, probably the best in the house!

It has a small vault above to make it feel a little bigger.

And a wall of closets for tons of prop and supply storage.  Who knew closets could make a girl so happy?

Well, that’s all for today’s tour friends!  Thank you for stopping in and walking through our addition.  Now comes the fun part.  While I’ve been planning some design stuff, we really hit the ground running with it now!  We’re officially laying out spaces.  I’m starting to gather art and furniture and the fun, fun stuff!  I’m so excited to take you guys on this renovation and design journey.

Looks amazing, Lindsay! I can’t wait to continue seeing it all come together and, eventually, the finished product! 🙂 So excited for you guys!

Yay for vaults!!! This is going to be such an amazing home, Lindsay! Thank you for allowing us along for the ride!! ~Kim

Lindsay, what’s even more exciting is that you will be in your home for the holidays!!! So many neat things, and you will enjoy decorating for the Fall and Christmas. Can’t wait to see your decor. Please share.

Silvia

This is awesome! We are still just taking on baby projects in our house and I love how y’all are jumping into this huge project that is going to look so, so good! Especially those tall ceilings. Love it!

Wow! Lindsey, this looks awesome. The vision is coming together perfectly. How cool that the vaults didn’t cost extra! and I enjoyed that sneak peek into the entry way. So much progress has been made. Love it, girl.

Thanks Sherri! Yeah, I’m still shocked that the vaults like that didn’t cost more! Thank goodness because we wouldn’t have increased the budget to allow them, but they’re going to make such a good difference.

We also have vaults and an open floor plan. It makes our home so much more spacious, so right on for vaults and open floor plans! Lol.

I’ve thoroughly enjoyed following your blog for some time but have never commented. Love following this build and watching you create a “nest” that’s perfect for your family. And those vaults? To.Die.For.

Thought I’d mention that by having the closets in your office/playroom you now are the happy owner of a 4-bedroom home – and where I live that’s a huge factor when selling a home. So… cha-ching! House isn’t even finished and already you’re ahead of the game! Not that you’re already thinking about selling of course!

Susan, first of all, thank you so much for commenting! So glad you’re here 🙂 Oh believe me, we’ve thought of that fact! Our house being categorized as a 4 bedroom is what made us take the plunge to add the extra space! While that isn’t how we plan to use it, that’ll put it in a whole new category when/if we sell.

Thank you for sharing. Love the layout, and am so jealous of your office with dual closets. I am learning so much from your process. Cannot wait for the decorating.

Man o man lady! The cottage bungalow is living its addition dreams vicariously through the buffalo bungalow right now. Everything looks so amazing already! I love that you vaulted the ceilings and all the beautiful light you’re getting throughout. I can’t wait to even draw plans for our addition. We cant decide if we want to build up or out so we will draw plans for both options and decide based on cost and whether the house can structurally handle an upstairs. Its been educational seeing your progress for sure. I can only imagine how excited you must be as details get finished up day by day.
