Home DecorChanges in the Dining Room October 27, 2016 {this year’s fall tour} As y’all saw in our fall house tour, some changes have come along in the dining room that I am loving! And gosh I still love that simple tablescape up above! Trader Joe’s flowers are always a win! I wanted to give a little more details about the changes we made in here and why. In case you guys forgot where this little dining area started, let’s take a look back to last fall. {last year’s fall tour} Last fall when we first moved in, we set up the dining room with the furniture we had in our last dining room. While I actually loved this look, the little round table was much too small for this space. We upgraded to a longer farmhouse table a few months after moving in and loved it! It was the perfect fit for the space. {farmhouse table post} While this made the space a lot better, after living with it for awhile, there was way, way too much brown for me. The brown table and dark floral I liked, but just used the cowhide because that’s what we had on hand and I wasn’t sure what I wanted. If this was an isolated dining room, I’d throw in one of my favorite colorful Persians and call it a day! But since this is an open floor plan and a lot of colorful rugs are in sight, it presented some difficulties. After lots of brainstorming, I decided to go with something neutral, but just couldn’t come to terms with a plain neutral. This area is dark with no windows and while I love the other elements, it all felt a little plain. When I came across this vintage Persian from the Unique Rug Store, I fell in love! I loved that it had pattern, but was light to brighten up the space and still neutral. You guys always ask where I find my rugs and Unique Rug Store is a new favorite rug source for me! They have so many options for any space. While I was tempted by all of their gorgeous colored rugs, I knew I had to go neutral here. I got a few pillows from Kilim Pillow Store to tie in with the rest of the berries and peaches throughout the rest of the house. Just like the rugs, they have really unique, one-of-a-kind kilim pillows. I love how the neutral pattern plays with the other rugs in the space. It ties in with the new entry rug that I still need to share details about. And I love the view of this room and the kitchen. Open floor plans are awesome, but definitely make things tough like mixing rugs and light fixtures, but I think this one is the perfect fit! It really brightens up this dark space and I love that it lets me bring in different colors in pillows, table linens, and place settings! The options are endless and I love having that flexibility as much as I love changing up table settings. Anything will go with that rug and the neutral basics! A big thanks to Unique Rug Store and Kilim Pillow Store for helping our dining room finally feel finished to me!

Lindsay says October 29, 2016 at 9:32 am Thanks so much Rachel! I know, the neutral, is SO FAR outside of my usual! But I really do love the softness it brings…it balances all my other color and pattern and is so versatile to move around to other rooms! Reply
