UncategorizedChalkboards April 21, 2011These days, chalkboards are everywhere. With my love of the written word, I really like the idea of decorating with words that inspire you. One of my favorites that I’ve seen out there is from The Nester. This whole room is awesome to me, but my favorite part is the framed chalkboard that she included in the gallery wall over the couch. I love the word she chose, “Dwell.” So perfect to represent fully living, dwelling, in our homes with our families. But even beyond that, inviting God to “dwell” in us. What a great reminder. I’ve been planning to make my own framed chalkboard for a while after seeing this one and others. So, when Ashley’s party rolled around, I decided it was time. She needed one too! I found two frames for $5 each at Goodwill two weeks ago. They were going to be my Thrifty Find Friday, but I couldn’t show them before she got hers! I bought one rustic barn wood frame and a gold gilded frame. I was in such a rush to get them done, I forgot to take any pictures before they became chalkboards! (I promise, I’m working on my picture taking). Without further adieu, here’s Ashley’s: I love barn wood, but I knew this one looked more like Ashley and Daniel than the gold one. The wood was originally a dark, rough brown. I sprayed one coat of white and left a lot of the wood showing through. I love how rustic it turned out! And here’s mine: Notice the quote that is currently on it. Does that sound familiar around this blog?? Yep, I’m living and breathing that right now and am loving and learning every minute. That’s what I love most about the whole “framed chalkboard as art” idea. Whatever quote, scripture, or word you’re feeling, just erase and write it up there as a constant reminder. I have a feeling I’ll be changing this one up quite often. In fact, with how much I love and am inspired by words, I don’t think one is enough. A giant chalkboard is in the works for our kitchen redo, whenever we get there. I say I could use one in every room. I’ll be back tomorrow with step-by-step instructions for how I made them!
Kristina says April 21, 2011 at 8:23 pm Super cute! I want to use a chalkboard somewhere in my kitchen. I was thinking on our water heater closet door, but that’s where our very big Ansel Adams calendar is, so I’m not so sure… Also, I found this on ana-white.com: http://ana-white.com/2010/11/drop-cloth-parson-chair-slipcovers.html They are sooo cute and I thought you’d like them!
