Home DecorBSHT ’16 – Our Christmas Home Tour Part 1 December 5, 2016 I use the word “favorite” a lot, but today really is one of my favorite days of the year. Of all my Blogger Stylin’ Home Tours, Christmas always, always takes the cake. I’m so excited to be joining with a group of wildly talented bloggers this year to bring you our Christmas homes. To all of you new visitors, welcome and MERRY CHRISTMAS! I’m so glad y’all are here. Notice I did say Part I up there…today, I’ll be sharing a close look at the heart of our home, our Christmas kitchen and living room. More spaces throughout our house will follow throughout the week! Most bloggers break up their home tours and I’ve been bad about just dumping it all into one post. This year, I decided spreading it out and really giving each room some love was in order. As I started to think about Christmas this year, I was craving something a little different. I love doing themes. I have such a blast coming up with a really particular color scheme or inspriation and then building all of my decor around that. And I have loved it. But life is a bit different now. For me, I still love that and know that I’ll always change things up a bit each year. It’s just fun for me. But chalk it up to having another baby on the way, I guess, I’m more in the mood for sentimentality and tradition. While I love adding fresh greenery and maybe a new ornament or two, I love the idea of pulling my decorations out of a box each year and reminiscing about each piece. We do that with our family tree (which I’ll share later) and I’ve decided to have that spill more around the house. I am not wishing their little lives away, but I already can’t wait for kids’ art and ornaments to splash around and pull back out each year! As I started unpacking my Christmas decorations, one of the first things I pulled out was this cookie jar. Chris gave it to me for Christmas one year because I’ve always this thing for old station wagons with trees on top…maybe it’s Christmas Vacation’s fault. But I love the nostalgia, whimsy, and just pure fun of it. To me, it represents so much of what I love about Christmas…a family setting out to deck their halls and celebrate this most wonder-filled season TOGETHER. It represents so much of how I want our kids to remember our home and our Christmases: fun, kid-friendly, special, and tradition-filled. It reminds me of the vintage Christmas cards I’ve always loved: so fun, colorful, and filled with Christmas cheer. I sort of went with a back-to-basics, vintage-inspired theme this year. All colors welcome and fun required. No rules, and bring on the sentimentality and little Christmas heirlooms from years past. Since I already showed you a bit of our kitchen, let’s start there. {You can check out our kitchen renovation here.} The kitchen didn’t get many changes, but I love the Christmas cheer it did get! The live wreath from Trader Joe’s instantly makes this room feel Christmassy. The little clay tree luminario on the top shelf was my mom’s and I still remember seeing it in our home each year. I love now having it out in mine to remember and share with my kids. For me, scents are big in the kitchen. I’ve been diffusing Christmas Spirit around the clock since before Thanksgiving and nothing makes our kitchen feel more festive. Imagine cinnamon, baking cookies, and apple cider all rolled into one. {You can read more about our natural living and essential oil journey here}. Greenery from Trader Joe’s and a little wool ball garland from Minted make this view extra special. The nesting St. Nicholas dolls were given to me by my grandmother when I was a little girl. We got them out each year growing up and I’ve gotten them out each year since we got married. They sure make doing dishes a little easier. Just a few touches go a long way and our ktichen sure feels festive. The kitchen is open to our living room, so let’s take a look in there. {You can check out our living room reveal here.} Oh this space is making me so happy this year! I love the elegant vibes that this room has with the fireplace, chandelier, and rug. But it just feels right to balance that with some kid-friendly fun. I want our home to be pretty and speak to my style, but most of all, I want it to be a place where my babies feel right at home, so there are some odes to them in here. The tree feels so vintage-y to me and I love it. The “frosted” tree is from Balsam Hill and I actually started the year with it really neutral (check that look out here). I actually loved that beautiful look in here! But I decided to layer on a lot of color on top of those pretty neutral ornaments (they’re still the base). I went with an all-colors allowed approach and piled on all of my favorite vintage colorful ornaments and some newer ones I’ve purchased over the last few years. I made sure there was a good bit of pink and blue to symbolize our changing family! Our little girl Rosie will be two in January and her baby brother is due in April (check out our gender reveal video here). We just got the news last month, so it feels fitting that he’s represented here. My mom made the two burlap stockings for Chris and I on our first Christmas. Then, I added one for Gracie when we got her, and added this one for Rosie last year for her first Christmas. Now, I’m on the hunt for just the right one for our new little man. I’ve got to find that baby before Christmas! While he obvioulsy won’t be here to receive it, we did a stocking for Rosie when she was on her way and something about opening that up together just made it fun and so real they were coming! This year, we’ll let Rosie unpack it and see what baby brother got. I love pulling these out each year! But this year, I had fun adding some whimsy and color to them with yarn letters from Target and some tassels I had lying around. I layered some live pine garlands no the mantel. I love a lush mantel. Then, I draped a wooden bead garland through it that I made for our decorations several years ago. On the mantel, I did a little ode to my favorite childhood decoration. I loved my mama’s villages growing up. I’ve started collecting these little houses and different trees, so I grouped them all together for a little village of our own. The white houses I added this year from Target’s dollar section ($3 each!) and the copper and gold I got in previous years at Michael’s. They shine so pretty at night. Well friends, thank you for touring this first little look at our Christmas home! I’ll have more spaces to share throughout the week! Yes, that often means tablescapes, inspiring interiors, and fun before and after renos. But it also means family. Faith. Joy. Struggles. Laughter. Health. You’ll find a little bit of all of that here as I share how we’re choosing to live with both style and purpose. A huge part of that is our journey toward a more natural life that’s focused on enjoying each and every moment together. A huge thanks to my main blog sponsor that makes this dream of mine possible:

Sarah says December 7, 2016 at 11:37 pm I am loving this Christmas Home Tour you’ve created. I’ve only made it through Monday, but I’m excited to view the rest tomorrow. All of the houses you’ve included are so different from each other, each beautiful in their own way. By the way, the link to the Restless Arrow blog is wrong. It goes to a different blog. I love love love your kitchen and living room. This is my first time to visit your blog (learned about the tour from Jones Design Co), but it definitely won’t be my last. We are renovating a house we bought this summer and your kitchen has so many features we have included (or plan to include) in ours. Although, I am regretting our white cabinet choice after seeing your beautiful BM Hidden Falls ones. :/ Reply
