UncategorizedBookshelf Styling Take 1 of 283,457 July 11, 2013 Okay, maybe I’m exaggerating, but I know these shelves will change any day now. I had the best time styling them, but already have several things I know will be changing shortly. The big glaring thing that will be changing soon is the DVD shelf underneath the TV. I’m looking for some sort of container that would look good displayed on a shelf, but that they would fit easily into. I’m picturing an old toolbox or something that’s just the right size. I know…might take me a while to find. Also, the cords will be gone soon as well. We’re FINALLY having television service hooked up in the next week. Oh, I can’t wait to have TV again. The biggest challenge with these was balancing pretties and books. I definitely wanted them to be functional and house our massive book collection, but we needed some style too. I’m definitely still tweaking that balance. I wanted it to look collected with each shelf different… …books laid different ways… …and a mix of materials in the pretty items I would use. I’m loving the touches of gold. But one thing that’s still missing for me are some rustic touches. I love this thrift store art and want to find another item or two with this feel. I added a few personal photos in. I especially like the black and white wedding photo on the top shelf. My favorite part, though, has to be the gold bookends. I bought these a while back at an antique store just for these built-ins and have been so excited to use them. I’m so happy with how they turned out and most of all, I’m so excited to have these to update and change for every season or as the mood strikes me. I’m learning that I LOVE open storage like these and our kitchen shelves because they are perfect for the constant redecorating that I love.

Lorri says July 12, 2013 at 6:47 am It looks just great! How fun to have nice new built-in shelves. I’ve used a rectangular wicker basket turned upside down over electronic equipment – you know, something simple from Home Goods. It could be a good interim solution until you find something cooler. I never used to like gold but the last year or two that’s all I can think about. can’t wait to see version 2.0…and 2.8…and 3.1……haha! Reply
