Home DecorBlogger Stylin’ Home Tours Fall 2015 September 21, 2015 Welcome to one of my favorite days of the year, friends! Blogger Stylin’ Home Tours Fall is officially here. I love hosting this tour and am always so honored to design and share style alongside such talented friends. I’m Lindsay and I am so happy you’re here! My husband and I just sold our old cottage and moved into this bungalow that we’ve been renovating for the last four months. When I say we “just” moved, I mean it very literally. Tonight will officially be one week. Yes, I’m the crazy fall-loving girl who decided to host a home tour series less than a week after moving into a new, still unfinished house. When I say unfinished, I mean that the kitchen is currently without countertops, tile, and working appliances. The master bath is an empty room, not one closet in the house has shelves to organize things, and not one light fixture has been hung yet! It has been a fast and furious journey, but I have loved sharing every step of our renovation here on the blog. If you’re new here, here’s a very brief summary of what we’ve done. We took a 750 square foot house, gutted the entire thing, completely re-worked the layout, and added on 1,000 square feet. To give you a quick catch-up for those interested, you can see the bungalow befores here, the plans here, the addition progress here, and the exterior progress here. You can find all renovation posts here. Today will be fun for those of you who’ve been following the reno from the beginning! You’ll see some styled rooms, some sneak peeks of things to come soon, and answers to some of our design dilemmas. Without further ado, welcome to our labor of love, The Buffalo Bungalow. After what I said above, you’re probably wondering what in the world there is to share! This renovation has really made me “let go.” I’ve realized that there is so much beauty in the progress and I have to quit waiting for something to be perfect to share it! None of these rooms look like I have them designed in my head. Furniture has been ordered and hasn’t arrived, art and lights need to be found, and so on. But none of that means you can’t have a pretty house that’s 100% your style! While it made for a crazy week, I am so thankful this tour fell soon after moving in. I’m a procrastinator and perfectionist. Those two things combined would’ve meant that boxes stayed stacked and no art was hung, nothing was remotely styled until I had the perfect things. I love that we have a pretty home to enjoy from the beginning, even if it will continue to evolve! This is actually one of the most fun tours I’ve done because I didn’t have the pressure of having rooms “exactly” like I want them. I knew nothing would be finished so I just enjoyed styling what I could for my favorite cozy season. I mainly used what I had on hand and went for a simple fall feel. You’ll notice a fairly consistent color palette in this tour. I have fallen in love with the color berry! The only room that I’ve revealed so far is our new front porch. You can see the whole reveal here. Having an outdoor area to enjoy this fall was so important to us, so much so that I designed it before anything else! There are so many things that excited me about this house. Finally having a front porch was one of them. Having an open concept and vaulted ceilings was another! We have a lot of vaults in this house that sort of popped up as we were renovating. My favorite is the open living room and kitchen that has a big vault above. The very unfinished kitchen is to the right of this photo below. Here’s a little sneak peek of the vault. This room will be changing a lot over the coming weeks, though the rug, couch, and a few other things will stay. Curtains, some new furniture, and art will be added. And the fireplace, the statement of the entire room, will get finished soon. Right now, it’s still unpainted sheet rock! But that doesn’t mean we can’t lounge and enjoy this room in the meantime! This new living room rug first sparked my berry love. It’s overdyed vintage from a local antique shop. I scored it this summer for $150 and am still pinching myself. The deep colors in it are really the inspiration for the whole house. For me, fall is simple. Cozy throws, pumpkins, and candles. By the way, this copper potted candle is a pumpkin spice soy candle from Target’s new line and it makes the entire house smell like fall! This room is already our new favorite hangout. My girls sure do agree! Meet our three year-old “first baby,” Great Dane Gracie. While she does look bigger than the couch in this photo, I promise it’s an optical illusion. She’s actually small for the breed, though we do still get comments like, “THAT’S THE BIGGEST DOG I’VE EVER SEEN.” And our Rosie girl loves it too. Our DIY Moroccan Wedding Blanket has held up so well and it’s still my favorite DIY project we’ve done. I think I’ll hold onto that one until it falls apart! I wasn’t originally going to share our dining area because all of the furniture is currently being shipped and our old dining furniture is just holding it’s place. But I decided to have fun styling it anyway! In a couple of weeks, the cowhide will be the only thing left in this photo above (I think), but I’m going to enjoy it in the meantime. And if you look really close, you can see what I mean about unifinished – no baseboard behind the table! I keep channeling my friend, The Nester’s, mantra: It doesn’t have to be perfect to be beautiful! Entertaining is one of my favorite things about fall. Setting a pretty table and enjoying good food…it’s the best! I’m dying to get our kitchen functioning this week so that I can get back to cooking! Eating out is wearing on us and my fall pumpkin muffins are calling my name. Another thing in the dining area that will be staying is our new berry colored buffet! This was a black IKEA dresser that we had at our old house and I decided to make a statement with it. The paint color is Rustoleum’s Dark Cherry and y’all, I LOVE this color. The last room on today’s tour is our master bedroom. It is amazing what a few accessories can do! This room was a blank white box. We have no headboard yet, no final nightstands, nothing. But I decided to use this large thrift store dark floral as a temporary headboard and I love how it sets the feel and color palette for the room. It almost makes me not want an actual headboard! I love how these berry pillows from Target really pull the reds and peaches out of it. The plaid pillow is a recent TJ Maxx find. And these copper and marble lamps won me over in Target’s new fall line. They may seriously have to stay in the final bedroom design! They’re just too good! Well thank you for touring our new home, friends! I hope you enjoyed it as much as I enjoyed sharing it. And I do hope you’ll stick around. There is so much good to come. I’ll be revealing our exterior very soon and a ton of renovation updates that you may have caught glimpses of above are on the way. Lianna@theresnoplacelikehomemke says September 21, 2015 at 6:54 am I can’t believe you just moved in! we just bought our first house about 8 months ago and we still have tools lying all over the place! you are an inspiration to share when you feel something isn’t “fisnished” yet. I always struggle with that! Reply
Lindsay says September 21, 2015 at 7:43 am Oh Lianna, there are tools, my friend! I’ll share a tour of our current kitchen later this week and you’ll see just how unfinished things still are 🙂 This one was a struggle for me because I am a perfectionist, but it was so good for me! I made myself hang art I already had and style it “for now.” My husband kept joking because it usually takes us like a year to hang a piece of art because I have to find the perfect one! I’m trying to enjoy and appreciate the process more! Reply

Lindsay says September 21, 2015 at 7:44 am Thank you, Michelle! It really gave the push I needed. I’m such a procrastinator, if I hadn’t of had this deadline, boxes would’ve been stacked in the living room for months! Reply

Lindsay says September 21, 2015 at 7:43 am Haha, thanks Aniko! Trust me, things are still chaos around here. Notice I only shared a handful of rooms 🙂 But it was really good to make me unpack and style a few things so we can start enjoying it! Reply

Kristin says September 21, 2015 at 8:20 am Oh, the new house is so lovely. I love the vaulted ceiling! That is MAJOR. The touches of berry work really well to give it some warmth. Can’t wait to see it as it progresses! I hear ya on the unfinished part. We have a kitchen being remodeled, I couldn’t shoot our bedroom because of the closet makeover, and the whole second floor is getting remodeled. Always interesting shooting in a construction zone 😉 Thanks so much for having me again my dear friend! Little Rosie is just the cutest! xo Reply

Austin says September 21, 2015 at 9:56 am EEEEEEE!!!!!! <— basically the sound I've been making internally through this whole post! As someone who's been following from the beginning, I'm already blown away by how far y'all have come. Can't wait to see all the new gems that are on their way! Unrelated: can't wait for a new Gracie post. I'm saving up for my own Dane (those babies aren't cheap!) and would love insider advice on owning one! 🙂 Reply
Lindsay says September 21, 2015 at 10:40 am Austin, I am so glad that you love the tour!!! It’s been surreal this past week actually sitting in this house that we’ve worked so hard to build over the past four months. It’s so exciting! And that makes me so happy you want a dane. We LOVE our big baby! Any questions you have, send them our way!!! I’m happy to give you guidance and advice. I researched dog breeds for a year and a half before we bought. We had very detailed criteria of what we wanted in a dog and a great dane was the one that fit! They are expensive, but if you find a breeder who doesn’t breed for show qualities, you can save a lot. We didn’t care about her being a certain color or not having spots, etc. and weren’t interested in showing her, so we saved some money that way. Please send your questions my way! Reply
Kristina says September 21, 2015 at 10:11 am Looks amazing! I’m loving the addition of the berry color. It’s gorgeous. Reply

Monica says September 21, 2015 at 11:13 am Hi Lindsay! I love your style, been following you for years. So glad to hear you guys have gotten to move in and can’t wait to see all the progress going on! Our house is dark green too but we went with light gray trim, it needs freshing up so I can’t wait to see your exterior post with full photos and all the details. I just love your rustic, cozy style. I’ve been trying to blend that in my home for years, so I’ve definitely been picking up a few pointers. Now I need to find something to paint with that amazing berry color! 🙂 Reply
Lindsay says September 21, 2015 at 11:33 am Monica, thank you so much! I’m so honored that you’re here and that you love our style! I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE our exterior. It might be my favorite thing yet. It’s so close to being ready to “sort of” reveal – by that I mean that all of the details we’re doing now are almost done. There will be a few updates later. I can’t wait to share! Stay tuned 🙂 Reply

Leah says September 21, 2015 at 12:22 pm Lindsay, everything is beautiful! I have never had much interest in designing a home from the ground up until watching you go through this process, but you make it seem like such a joyful and artistic experience! I’ve got one question for you, and I apologize if you’ve answered this elsewhere and I missed it — Do you do anything to treat the pumpkins you use in your fall decor? I’ve read a lot of different tips on spraying them with various products to make them last longer, but I’ve never tried it. Do you coat them with anything and if not, do you find that they last all season without any problems? Thanks! Reply
Emily @ 11gables.blogspot.com says September 21, 2015 at 12:27 pm Lindsay!!! Wow! You are a super momma!! If I just moved in last week it would have been photos of boxes, boxes, and more boxes! Sherry Mullis says September 21, 2015 at 8:12 pm My favorite part of this whole post is the new picture of your adorable Rosie?. I do love what you are doing in your new home. I must admit your style is not my style but that said your blog is one of my favorite. I have so enjoyed following your progress on your new home. You truly are making this house your home. It is reflecting what I love about your style. You don’t follow any of the recent trends we see in blogville and your color scheme is always your own. Those are things I enjoy every much. Can’t wait to see more. I do believe, just like me, you will never be truly “finished” with your home but I enjoy that ever changing place we call “home” Reply
Lindsay says September 21, 2015 at 9:37 pm Yes, Sherry, I was thinking that today…this will never be “finished!” But I think that’s a good thing 🙂 Your comment was so sweet and I’m so honored that you read and are here! Reply
