Blogger Stylin’ Home Tours – Christmas 2014

Christmas Entertaining

Happy first day of Blogger Stylin’ Home Tours Christmas 2014!

If you’re just finding The White Buffalo, I am so happy that you’re here!

To catch you up quickly, I’m Lindsay.  I’m married to Chris.  We have a large furry baby (Great Dane Gracie).  We’re expecting a sweet little Rosie in January (read about all things Baby Buffalo here).  And the White Buffalo is about LIVING EVERY DAY WITH STYLE. For more on who we are, check out the About page.

Okay, now, moving on to our lovely tour today!

I love every single edition of this series of mine.  I absolutely love seeing all of the amazingly talented bloggers’ homes.  But there is just something about Christmas.

I love mixing up my Christmas decor each year.  I always choose a theme as my inspiration and really have fun carrying it out.  We have a very open floor plan, so this keeps the decor cohesive.  Plus, it lets me push my creativity.  I thrive on that!

Last year, I went with an overall idea that I was inspired by: Anthro Christmas Lodge.  You can see that full tour here.

This year, as I was brainstorming my theme, I found an inspiration item instead.  A vintage, woven shawl in a gorgeous color scheme caught my eye at a local thrift store.

Christmas color scheme

So, I decided to use it as my Christmas tree skirt and build the rest of my decor from this beautiful color palette: NAVY, TURQUOISE, RED, AND PEACH.  I always love mixed patterns and an unexpected, eclectic style, but this Christmas, I really had fun mixing things up a bit.

When you first come into our little cottage, what we’ve deemed “The Lounge” greets you.

Christmas Fireplace

This fireplace redo has gotten quite a bit of airtime around the blog lately, but it is my favorite project to date!  And I am loving it styled for Christmas in these colors.

Christmas Mantel

You can see the before and after of this fireplace here.  It was such a dramatic transformation for $50!  Check out how we made those sconces here and the DIY Faux Marble Fire Screen here.  They really cozy up this space for the holiday.

Rustic Christmas Decor

I shared our Christmas tree last week.  You can see more photos of it here.

Wreath as Tree Topper

Let’s venture on to the rest of the house, shall we?

The Lounge opens up into our living room.  It got a fun dose of color this holiday!

Christmas Living Room Ideas

The pillows and throw are from Home Goods.

Living Room Ideas

I had fun bringing our color palette into this area.

Christmas Living Room Styling

One of my favorite parts of our Christmas decorations are our garland-adorned built-ins in the living room.

Christmas Built-ins

I started with a pine garland from Trader Joe’s.  I love their greenery this year!

Christmas Garlands

Then, I layered on some suede fringe trim as garland.  I love using this stuff.  It drapes so beautifully and looks fun and fancy with zero work involved!

Christmas Bookshelf Ideas

And then I added in a gold beaded garland from the dollar store!

Christmas Decorating Ideas

I love sitting on the couch and staring at these pretty shelves.  Who knew simply draped garlands could bring so much joy?

When we renovated this place, we removed the two main walls in these main areas and separated the different areas with faux beams.

I love styling my open shelves in the kitchen, but this Christmas, I really gave them some cheer.

Christmas Kitchen Styling

I stuck with a pretty neutral palette for the shelves.  Our kitchen already has so much color with that rug and the live edge island.

Christmas Shelf Styling

Some small wreaths from Trader Joe’s and a few mixed-metallic trees livened these shelves right up.

Christmas Kitchen Decorating

I love the berries and pinecones on these wreaths!

The trees are from Target and Home Goods.  Gold and silver sure are a pretty pairing against white.

Christmas Styling

And I’ve been so excited to decorate our new dining room for Christmas.

Holiday Dining Room

While I love these curtains for everyday, they scream Christmas to me (curtain fabric from Joann’s).

They’re so perfect for this color scheme: red and peach roses with different shades of blue.

Christmas Dining Room

I really had fun mixing patterns in the dining room.  The vintage, plaid wool tablecloth pulls the red and blues out of the curtains, but really adds an eclectic vibe.

Christmas Dining Table

I love bringing in different shades of the same color to add depth.  The napkins are also made from Joann’s fabric.

I used my Christmas tree collection as a centerpiece, so simple place-settings fit the bill.  A simple gold pinecone at each place setting was just enough.

Okay, when I first saw your color choices I was like … uh oh. But then I saw your home and I was like … OMG. I should have never momentarily doubted your vision. This is perfection. I love how you made it your own. The garland above the TV. So dope! All the vintage touches are ah-mazing. Killer, friend. 🙂

And thanks for having me be a part of this fab tour and for putting it all together. It’s totally an honor.

MERRY CHRISTMAS!
Michael

PS. I’m going to steal all the trees on your table. I kind of have a “thing” for them.

Michael, thank you so much! Your comment just cracked me up and I LOVE that! I love taking things that people are like, “What the heck?!” and then hopefully turning it into a beautiful final product 🙂 Thank you!!!

I’m so excited Lindsay, I think this is my favorite week of the blogging year 🙂 Everything is perfect and I especially love your dining room! Amazing job friend and thanks as always for hosting this awesome event!!!!

Thanks Summer! I need to host a little dinner 🙂 Our dining room may be tiny (okay, super tiny), but hopefully there’s some personality packed in there!

Gosh sometimes I get too used to my blog friends’ talent and become so accustomed to seeing great rooms that I forget just have much talent y’all have! This post reminded me of why i fell in love with your blog in the first place. It is so great Lindsay! I love all of your natural and vintage touches and the color scheme is so new!

Your use of the pine garland and fringe is so much fun and I love all of your kitchen shots – those are $$ shots 😉 Looks so nice – enjoy it!

lindsay, your home is amazing! love it! love that it is YOUR style. love the suede fringe, the textiles….. and really just everything. oh and the tree. i mean i can’t list it all. 🙂

I love how intentional each piece is; the way the colors tie everything together; and mostly the fact that seeing each of these items alone would be so random but together, it’s truly stunning. I love how it fits together and represents who YOU are.

I love it! You have such great taste and an amazing way of getting colors to go together! Where did you get that fun orange and white striped pillow at the kitchen table? I love it!

Stunning, Lindsay! I LOVE the color scheme – its just beautiful! You always know how to decorate perfectly for the holidays without overdoing it!

So much beauty here!! Wow wow wow! The garland over the bookcases is so classic and lovely. Can’t wait to explore more of these tours – so much talent. 🙂

Lindsay, everything looks just perfect and cohesive! I love your vintage, eclectic vibe! You have done such a wonderful job putting together and organizing this awesome group of bloggers. I am overwhelmed at all the talent!! Just beautiful!! xox, Emily

Finally starting the tour over here 🙂 So beautiful, Lindsay! That fringe on your bookshelves might be my favorite part too. And I LOVE the color palette you went with – totally festive and somehow sort of traditional but still unexpected. Just lovely.

I’ve stopped by this post a few times now and each time I get distracted and find my self in a never ending post after post whirlwind. I really wanted to stop this time and tell you what a beautiful job you’ve done! Your inspiration piece is stunning and I love how you’ve incorporated it into every part of your holiday decorating.
