UncategorizedAnd it's finally begun… March 3, 2011Welcome to my little piece of the blog world, Life of Splendor. Life of Splendor has been in the works for quite some time. It initially started with my love for design and my passion to create. When my new husband, Chris, and I bought our first house in September of 2010, those ideas were put to the test. We hadn’t been house hunting for very long, but we knew we were in search of an older fixer-upper with lots of character. So, when we stumbled across this place with great bones, but in need of lots of love, we knew we’d found our match! Here Chris and I are on the day we moved in. (As you can see from this picture, I have a hard time getting a serious picture of my goofy husband, but that’s one of the things I love most about him!) For us, building a home, has become more than paint colors and throw pillows. Don’t get me wrong, I love me some pillows, but building our home together has been more about creating a haven and a refuge, a place for our family to blossom and grow. Along the way, we have discovered a style all our own and are loving creating a welcoming and comfortable atmosphere, as well as infusing every corner of our humble abode with a unique taste of “us”. I have always had a passion for writing; pair that with my love for design and a blog was born! “Seeing the Splendor in the Everyday” has multiple meanings for me. It’s definitely about design – seeing the infinite possibilities in a great thrift store find, or like our home, seeing the beauty that resides in something that many would say has seen better days. But, it’s more than that. It’s about choosing to see the splendor, the beauty, the blessings that surround us and fill each day that others may deem as ordinary. Life is hardly ever easy and there will always be an obstacle in our path, but I am a firm believer that true and lasting joy comes from trusting in Christ and choosing to see the blessings He has poured into our lives. I see it in the big things like His boundless grace, my blessing of a husband, my family, friends, church, and community that surround our family. But, I also see it in the small things like the love God has given me for design, the written word, all kinds of food (though my husband is the better the cook), a good love story, traveling, cozy sweaters and hot chocolate in cold weather, and laughter shared with loved ones. Here on this blog, I’ll be chatting about a little of all of it. I’ll be documenting every step of us making our old house into an inviting home. We have many plans for our little home in 2011 – we’ve got the vision, now I just have to remind myself to have patience and enjoy the process! I’ll also be sharing special times with our family and a journey of faith. It’s those moments that make you take pause and appreciate what you’ve been given. So, hang around, and join me on this crazy, sometimes hard, but full of splendor ride!
