UncategorizedA Prayer for Malachi April 18, 2013 Dear Lord, We’re so grateful for the blessing of little Malachi Samuel. Our family was immediately taken by his curious, dark blue eyes and the yawns that took up his entire face and seemed to take every ounce of strength he had. We’re so thankful for his sweet little hands that are always up touching his face. We’re even thankful for his extra-long fingers that make his dad swear he will one day be an NBA star. Lord, for the first time, I am truly taken by the beauty and bigness of your creation. That you could create something so precious, innocent and pure fills my heart and makes me grateful. Only you could create one like this who commands the attention of six adults for two hours just by sleeping in his car seat. We’re grateful for this baby you’ve brought into our lives that will no doubt spark so much laughter and joy in our futures. Lord, our hearts are full. Full of thankfulness. Full of joy. Full of awe. Awe that you used these tiny blue eyes and tiny hands to remind us all that You alone are God. Thank you for using this experience to thin the veil between us and heaven, reminding us that You are a God of love and blessing and you alone are the creator and sustainer of all things. All good things come from You. But while our hearts are filled with amazement, they are also filled with responsibility and prayers. Lord, as we watch him so content, so innocent, and so unaware of the world around him, our desire is to preserve that innocence forever. We pray that he will grow healthy and strong, but we know that as he does, he will experience both good and bad, joy and heartbreak. This baby, though perfect and wonderful, was brought into a fallen world. Lord, you’ve called us to be a light in that world. Help each of us in his life to show him Your light and continually direct him to You. Already, the thought of this sweet baby experiencing any kind of heartache breaks ours. Our desire, God, is to shield and protect him from everything, but we know that is not Your plan. Your plan, instead, is to equip this little man to face the world in front of him and be a shining example of Your grace and mercy. Help the two amazing parents you’ve given him to guide his path for Your glory. Yes, we desire his protection. We hope for him to be spared from any type of pain or evil. But most of all, we pray that you equip him. Equip him to face whatever comes his way with a strength, resolve, passion, and joy that could only come from you above. Give him a deep love of You and an understanding of Your word. Give him a peace and a joy that overflows and makes those around him take notice. Make him strong, not only physically, but spiritually. We pray that he be Your warrior. Give him a compassion and a heart for others. Give him discernment to see others’ need and give him the drive to meet it. We pray that he will live a life filled with joy and laughter and blessing, but when the rain comes, let him not falter for he knows that You are by his side. Your promises are good and will always remain true. You will never leave us nor forsake us. Your love is unending. Your grace and mercy know no equal. Above all else, Lord, write these truths on his sweet little heart. Amen.
