UncategorizedA Memorial Day Party May 25, 2012Happy Friday, y’all! I just love Fridays and the Friday before a long weekend is even better. Do y’all have anything special planned for Memorial Day? I hope you do! I hope you’re going to enjoy the outdoors and some good food with friends and family. We will be visiting my parents this weekend and my sister and her husband, Daniel, are coming into town. I am so happy to see them! They live six hours away now, so we don’t see each other as much as we’re used to. We haven’t all been together since Christmas, so this get together is long overdue. Our family loves to throw parties for just about anything, so we definitely have something up our sleeves for this holiday. We’re having the whole family over for a Memorial Day Bash. We still have a few things to round up, but I made a party inspiration board so that y’all could see what I was feeling for this. We’re thinking a country spin on the traditional patriotic decor for Memorial Day. I’m thinking a white tablecloth, red gingham table runner, and blue floral cloth napkins. We’ll use some all white dishes (not these Vietri ones, though these are so lovely!) and we’ll drink our sweet tea and lemonade out of Mason jars. For the party decor, I’m hoping to hang lights overhead, and use some galvanized details and lanterns. We’ll use some old crates like this for food displays and decoration. For the flowers, we’re going to cut blue hydrangeas from my mom’s hydrangea bush that’s in full bloom right now. We’ll use vases at different heights with one hydrangea bloom in each to create a look something like this: This was from Better Homes and Gardens (the April issue, I think). I love the eclectic look of this outdoor party and the flowers in different bottles has a lot to do with that. We’re going to try to recreate that as our centerpiece. There’s nothing I like better than throwing a fun party, especially one outdoors. I love summer in the south for that very reason…yes, it’s hot, but in the evening, a breeze blows through. Lightning bugs are floating around you and you can hear the distant (and sometimes not too far off) calling of whippoorwills. To me, that’s the perfect backdrop for a leisurely evening spent with those you love. We’ll be eating out under the trees in early evening and hopefully, lingering into the night. I hope you have a wonderful holiday. Get outside and enjoy all that this season has to offer! I’ll have pictures of our party next week!
