UncategorizedA Family Desk January 10, 2012I thought I’d be posting this last week, but my grad school program got in the way. I had to go last Wednesday through Saturday to present a lecture and my final thesis in order to graduate. I kept thinking I’d have time each day to blog, but it was much more busy, stressful, and emotional that I’d expected. I always love being there surrounded by my writer friends, so knowing that this was the last time was hard. We had our graduation dinner on Saturday night, so it’s officially over. I can’t believe how fast this two year program has gone. I’m such a different writer and person because of it. I’ve learned so much about myself and met lifelong friends that I know will be with me forever. This is me with my great friend, Kristina. She is seriously the best. She’s the nicest person, a wonderful writer, and a very dear friend. She and my other fiction writer friends have inspired me and helped me to grow as a person and a writer. I am so grateful to them and can’t imagine continuing on this new writing life without them. But now, I’m onto a new stage. I don’t know what it holds exactly…but there are a few things I do know. I will be writing and blogging. And I need a space to do it! This brings me to the reason for this post. For Christmas, Chris made me a rustic desk. I love the rustic plank top. He made this desk out of old ceiling joists and beams he found at a local salvage place. I knew I wanted a desk something like this for the sunroom to serve as our family organization area and my writing place, but I really didn’t expect him to make it for me for Christmas. It turned out so much better than I had pictured it. This is going to sit in the sunroom opposite the mudroom/bench area. We still have to add curtains and lots of other things to this room, but it’s starting to take shape. For now, this is my writing and blogging space. And I’m loving it. Thanks Chris 🙂
