15 Inspiring Kitchens

I’m thrilled to be kicking off Kitchen Week here on the blog.  As I said on Friday, designing kitchens are my absolute favorite.  Today, I’m sharing 15 gorgeous kitchens that I haven’t been able to get out of my head as I’m designing our new kitchen over at The Buffalo Bungalow.

Yes, I know.  15 kitchens is a ton.  But while they’re all different, each of them has something that drew my eye.  Each pairs classic with statement elements, which is perfect for a kitchen in my book. I’d be giddy to have any of these in our new house!

Alright, here we go.  Are y’all ready to be inspired?

While I love my current white kitchen, dark moody kitchens are really stealing my heart right now.  The black, white farmhouse sink, and brass are a winning combo.

2

I love how the black cabinets in this kitchen blend in with the black bead board walls and then the light wood farmhouse table contrasts against it.  And those brass lights!

This kitchen also from Country Living has some of those same elements.  I love the light and dark, wood farmhouse table, and brick floor.

White marble counter tops just look so good against dark cabinets, don’t you think?  And greenery really pops.

5

These navy cabinets, marble patterned walls, wood shelves, and that fancy-schmancy chandelier create such a unique combination.  I think this one might be a favorite out of this gorgeous bunch.

6

I don’t even know what to say about this one, it’s so good.  I love seeing the patterned tile on the bar and then it’s balanced with all of the white.

Cement tiles for the win again!  The touch of pattern is a real standout, but the gray/green cabinets, white brick wall, and wood beams on the ceiling create such a pretty backdrop.

The wood cabinets in this picture is a perfect match for that patterned blue wall!

This black and white beauty is classic and so gorgeous, with just enough modern spin to keep it fresh.

10

brass hood

This has got to be one of the coolest kitchens I’ve ever seen.  The brass hood is to die for, but that live edge island layered over the white?  Insane.  I love the rustic mix with the modern.  I know hubby would love this one.

An eclectic mix of materials, patterns, and textures always gets me and this kitchen does that so well!

This initial kitchen design by Emily Henderson stopped me in my tracks.  You may have seen that she later painted the bottom cabinets navy and don’t get me wrong, her finished kitchen is beautiful!  But something about this mix of wood and white, marble and brass just sings to me.

This kitchen is all about the lights.  Those lights are to die for.

This kitchen design is so beautifully classic and well done.  But the art hung in the kitchen is what’s really inspiring me about this space.  I love treating the kitchen like any other room instead of just having cabinetry.  Art makes it!

There are no words.  Brick walls are just awesome.  They immediately scream history and soul.  I love the eclectic touches layered in this one.

If you’re still reading, give yourself a pat on the back.  I hope these images inspired you like they did me!  I know it may be hard seeing all of these different images to figure out where I’m headed, but hopefully when I share the plans later this week, you’ll see where it all came from.

While they are different, some trends are definitely emerging above: dark touches, wood elements, brass, pattern….hmmm…..there’s some clues for you!

Up tomorrow, I’m talking kitchen function and layout.  Kitchens work hard, so we’ve got to address that before we get to the pretty.

I’m curious, do you have a favorite kitchen above?  I know choosing a favorite might be near impossible, but I’d love to hear what you think!

3, 8 and 14. 3 for the B&G with white balancing. 8 for the lighter patterned wall and 14 for the blue ceiling and the art.

#3 and 9. The windows and totally insane floors!!!! I’m so in love with both of those kitchens! Great look I see you’re headed for, cannot wait to follow along this week! ~Kim

#5 is hands down my favorite, although I’m totally digging the darker vibes of the first few. But I can’t stop scrolling back to #10 and that insane brass hood!

I forgot to add that marble, even if just a small bit, is the best. I make bread and dough, etc., easily, all the time thanks to my marble slab.

I love them all, so I’m no help. But I have to ask how you find these inspiration images? I’m still working out the name for my aesthetic (it’s taken ten years to realize that loving all the styles doesn’t mean using them all) and I keep dead-ending in my searches for kitchens like these. Is there a particular design term that helps you weed out the shabby chic or French Country styles from your results?

Great question, Stephanie! While I’ll do some “kitchen” searches on Pinterest, you really are going to have all kinds of stuff to weed through. My best advice is to go to a design source’s Pinterest page that you know you’ll love like Domaine Home or Domino (or even a blogger you know you’ll like). Click on their kitchen board (or whatever room you’re looking at). They’ll likely be some you like there, but when you find a pin you love, I always scroll down and look at similar pins and other boards this pin is pinned to. Those other boards often have a ton of like-minded design stuff. Hope that helps!

That’s great advice, thank you! As we plan our kitchen (next summer!!), I’m having to be heavy on the visual aids to convince my husband that I’m not insane to want brass hardware or black lower cabinets. 😉

I’m excited to see your process in advance of my own. 🙂
